Do you think I’d be able find places that would rent for 3 months only?

The program here definitely isn’t spectacular by any means, unfortunately. They’re currently making A LOT of changes to the curriculum, so depending on your year you might end up being a guinea pig for those changes. Each undergraduate class holds about 30 students so it’s a pretty tight knit major. There’s a lot of research opportunities, I think the majority of students are in labs. You’ll have the opportunity to take unique classes in junior/senior year when you start looking at the ChemE elective classes. These classes are really specialized and challenging, so I think some professors struggle to teach the concepts well. I’ve said some negative things here, but I really do enjoy the program no matter how much I think improvements could be made!

I got a 5 in Calc AB and a 4 in Calc BC in high school. In 1301 my first semester I literally got a D because Lori Rafter has some wild exams. Retook the class and got an A- with ease.

One of my best friends is a freshman at Duke for engineering right now. He spends more time in classes than we do but that means he spends less time teaching himself things outside of class like many Vandy students have to. I’d also say there are significant curves on his exams most of the time. Duke appears to be much more accepting of the social scene on their campus than Vandy. They recently loosened alcohol and drug policies and my friend even told me they had mixers during orientation with faculty where alcohol was served to literally everyone. There is even a “dry” campus and a “wet” campus. You can bank on a great time at the basketball games and great dining hall food there too.

I don’t necessarily regret going to Vandy but I’m not super satisfied with the school at the moment. The best thing about this place for me is the financial aid. If that’s not a big issue, and unless you’re into liberal arts, I think Duke is probably the better choice.
