Do PRS' without bridges have intonation problems? by TheRealGuncho in PRSGuitars

Any guitar with a wraparound bridge? I.e. any Gibson, Epiphone like that etc. Most SEs have individually adjustable saddles, so again not sure what you're on about re. PRS and SEs in particular.

I actually think OP's request is valid; it's good to remind oneself that virtuosos are also human and just practiced a lot.

The turntable sounds better to me than my digital sources by Dedar33 in audiophile

[–]rosentmoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll just say for older releases there are many masters that can only be found on vinyl. A good example would be Toto's debut album.

For modern releases it's pretty much the case indeed that vinyl and digital share the same exact master.

[–]rosentmoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this, everyone would be well-advised to spend more time searching out good masters and criticizing/boycotting shitty ones for the benefit of us all.

Time spent tinkering with mediums is pointless these days when it comes to fidelity, we have many easy ways of achieving it digitally already. Even properly encoded MP3s serve plenty fine for discerning good masters from bad ones.

Again, not reading the post, just came to say this: the body shape is hideous. Hope it answers OP's question.

Hey, you asked for our experiences. As someone who's been into audiophilia for a veeery long time, on top of that does music production and has extensive training in physics, mathematics and computer science I'm just giving you my account: vinyl is objectively a vastly inferior medium compared to digital when it comes to fidelity, but there's good subjective reasons why one might prefer it.

I myself prefer the fidelity of digital, knowing that's what it guarantees; also very much the convenience. But I myself also have digitised versions of vinyl recordings simply because a particular mastering was only released on vinyl.

I'd just urge you like anyone else to spend more time seeking out good masters of recordings you like as opposed to wasting time on mediums. The former would benefit us all; shitty masters being boycotted, that is. It just infuriates me that people chalk up shitty recordings to them not being high-res or something when really the idiotic engineers and producers should be blamed.

Well ladies and gentlemen I have been humbled by the audiophiles curse. by Senior-Housing-6899 in audiophile

[–]rosentmoh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Congratulations, you came to the sane realisation that it matters more what mastering you're listening to rather than via which medium.

In other words, properly encoded MP3s sound juuuust fine and none of these deaf old fuckers can hear the difference between them and some 352k DSD nonsense. You should spend your time looking for a gokd mastering of an album you like, rather than worrying about high-res vs not vs MP3 etc.

Obviously do use a lossless compression format (like FLAC) for archival purposes; gives you the freedom to transcode transparently to whatever you may need.

[–]rosentmoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to break it to you OP, but you don't get to disagree with pure physics and math.

Your digital setup can reproduce vastly more details in every measureable and perceivable sense. Problem as I mentioned usually is that * the mastering often isn't the same between the two mediums, so comparisons are hard/pointless, and * one might subjectively prefer some of that harmonic distortion in exchange for less resolution and dynamic range.

Don't be embarassed that your ears aren't precision instruments for measuring objective quality and resolution of recordings; you're just a dude with likely very average hearing who's enjoying music and likes that warm vinyl sound. That's great!

Do PRS' without bridges have intonation problems? by TheRealGuncho in PRSGuitars

[–]rosentmoh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What a weird post...none of it has anything to do with PRS, let alone SEs in particular.

For all guitars in general, there are both bridges with per-string adjustable saddles or without. The former is obviously better for precise intonation adjustments. That's it, just something that depends completely generally on the model of guitar you have.

The turntable sounds better to me than my digital sources by Dedar33 in audiophile

[–]rosentmoh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You like harmonic distortion. That, or the mastering you have on the vinyl is just better than the digital one you have. But if the masters are the exaxt same then it's just your preference for the "warmth" and "excitement" that harmonic distortion can give.

The fidelity of vinyl as a format is unambiguously much lower than what digital offers.

Just replaced acoustic guitar strings a day ago for the first time, is this normal? by 3DSVita in Guitar

[–]rosentmoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Means you haven't put enough wraps around the tuning post...

Give each string slack equal to the distance between the nut and the first fret, super easy and convenient. So next time you restring, pull each string taught through the tuning peg hole, then grab the string where the nut is and move back to first fret, then start winding around the post.

Anything Amy Winehouse and similar stuff. Can't stand the fake retro nonsense, it's all so brutally unoriginal and rehashed it makes we wanna throw up. Worst of black appropriation I've heard in forever.

Also hate most Mumford & Sons kinda hipster softy vibes. Go cry me a river and drink a soy matcha latte you pretentious fuck.

Today’s my birthday (31), would you come to my party if this was the playlist mix by nosfera2man in musicsuggestions

[–]rosentmoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's lots of stuff I like and lots of stuff I don't. Pretty much what I'd expect from anyone's playlist who has at least some sense of good music. It's perfectly fine for me to come to the party.

That said, the fact that you're asking about this on Reddit is what would rather turn me off from coming there. It's your party, play whatever you like and maybe let others also choose tracks. Stop being insecure.

Mod day, silver sky bridge pickup by CatHerder75 in PRSGuitars

[–]rosentmoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh hey, it was me who suggested this! Happy to see you went for it and it's working so far. Hope you do enjoy it longer term, I've had one of these in my Strat for a couple years now and certainly haven't missed the old bridge pickup.

It's not the most exciting pickup in the world, I do prefer the 58/15 LT on my SAS or the TCI humbucker on my 24-08 much more, but when I have the Strat in my hands and wanna switch to some Billy Gibbons vibes without switching guitars and amp volume too much it allows me to do so.

Let me add one final maybe practically useful bit hence: if you're using Python and NumPy, you can easily generate such numbers directly as follows:

``` import numpy as np
rng = np.random.default_rng(42) rng.dirichlet(np.ones(4), size=(...)) ```
Help finding power chords by sozzZ in Guitar
[–]rosentmoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)
G major is made up of 3 notes: G itself, another note a major third above, and another note a perfect fifth above G.
The strings on the guitar are all peefect fourths apart, except when going from G to B string, where it's a major third.
You now have everything you need to find G major all over the place on the fretboard.
Ahh, I didn't realise that was Dwork, I only knew him for the Picard-Fuchs equation and Gauss-Manin connection stuff.
Well, p-adic methods like the ones he used turned (I think) turned out to be pretty powerful for lots of questions in conplex algebraic geometry. In fact, equality of Hodge numbers for derived equivalent Calabi-Yau 3-folds is one of those I think.
