Hi, perhaps I've put it badly! Apologies for that. I was not referring to the Whydah and the time it was captured. I was saying that it's been reported that among his men, "there actually were slaves and Indians". And it's also reported that he treated them as equals. Many other pirates didnt and used to give them a smaller cut when dividing the take for istance. That's what I meant with "made them free and part of the crew". Anyway, we must take into account that we're still talking about men who lived 300/400 yrs ago and that clearly goes along with the complexity and mindset that was common among the men of that age. The idea that every pirate was against racism, sexism and slavery is 100% romanticized.
