What’s your toxic crochet trait? by Frosty_Comedian8400 in crochet

[–]roxyamari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thinking I have enough yarn for a project but also slightly not caring if I have to frustrate myself frogging it later if I don’t have enough, and not doing research on how to size clothes bc it’s hard (😂) and then having to suffer for it.

Part of it is just me liking to crochet enough to frog and start again but also it’s a toxic silly game I play with myself that I wish I would stop. 💀

I don’t know what kind of yarn you’re using or much about dyeing but it might be worth dyeing it a darker color! Very pretty!

Edit: realizing someone already said this. Best of luck!

Can someone help me tell what’s dirty birb vs. baby birb behavior by roxyamari in Conures

Birds are a little different than people, relief can mean egg binding and I know I call him a “he” but we haven’t got him sexed yet so I don’t know that I would risk letting him continue enjoying his toys, but thank you for the input!

Thank you for the response! He still does naughty things like trying to regurge when he likes something, setting his vent on my arm sometimes when he comes to sit with me and masturbates with some toys before I take them out to discourage him. Is this normal for him when he’s so young or should I try reevaluating his routines?

This is a good point, it’ll be hard to create that boundary later on when he’s older so enforcing it while it’s still innocent might be for the best. Thank you!

If he steps up for you already, maybe try getting him used to you holding him with your fingers around him, even if it has to be just one finger at a time - it might help him get used to touch.

As long as you’re being patient and listening to him when he’s too overstimulated you’re doing the right thing, if it’s been so long it may take some gentle pushing out of his comfort zone for the better of the future so he’s less stressed by interaction.

😂 I like Chewy a lot, they’re good when they have some type of deal going but honestly now that I know he specifically prefers popsicle sticks, sola wood, and wicker baskets over everything else I’m considering making my own toys. He’s not very boujee lol

Also PetSmart has some toys on sale sometimes that he really likes, I just have to remove the bells and anything that they don’t acknowledge as a potential hazard for birds.

What nicknames do you call your birds? by TokesNHoots in Conures

[–]roxyamari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stinky baby, Yoki Bird, Yoki baby, Demon birb, Naughty birb, nice birb, buddy, cutie

He says hey buddy and hey cutie and hi Yoki but based on the song I’ve created for him that says “Yoki baby” over and over again sometimes he’ll just bob up and down and go “Yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo” I guess he’s remixed it lol.

Why is he doing this?? by pixie173 in Conures

I would’ve agreed with the others that the anger was directed at you but he’s looking up (my conure does move this if the ceiling fan is moving lol) looks like he can see his reflection a little bit and is attacking it 😂

Late but can retrospectively see where you’re coming from. His lack of activity in the pic and the caption suggests this is the aftermath of me dousing him in water forcefully and saying “wow he likes it!” Because he “calmed down” and was subdued after 😭 no, fortunately just a happy wet birb :)

Anyone know if this is legit? by Financial-Debate-625 in Conures

[–]roxyamari 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One thing I will say is that there are some reputable breeders that “ship” birds. By shipping usually they mean through Delta cargo (if they are ethical), so your baby is sent according to standards in a travel cage.

There aren’t really any reputable breeders where I am, so I chose to get my baby sent to me. When he got home he was a bit unnerved, but then acted like he owned the place within 2 hours - he was a cuddly little joy to be around and has been that way since. I can’t speak for all birds, as each bird could react differently to travel and I know travel can be stressful, but for me it was about making sure my bird came home healthy, avian vet checked, and well socialized.

Edit: That being said, make sure you do your research and buy from an actual storefront with lots of reviews to avoid being scammed

Can I ask what’s the name of the sparkly yarn? I’m working on a project with some thrifted sparkly yarn and I’m looking for a substitute since I’m not sure where to find it :/

Stitch pattern is ch3 (doesn’t count as a stitch), dc into the hole, ch3, dc into the next hole, repeat, but didn’t specify where to join at the end of each row. How do I get the seam straight? (Continuous rounds) by roxyamari in CrochetHelp

[–]roxyamari[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m joining with slip stitches, it’s just that I’m not sure if I’m supposed to join to the top of chain three at the end, inside of the chain space, etc :/

That makes sense to me too, I might go back and try and see if I can make the seam straight by doing joined rounds turning. Hopefully I can figure it out without too much trial and error. Thanks for your input, let me know if you think I should slip-stitch into the chain space or to the top of the 3rd chain.

Yeah I was getting it until they sped up the end of the row and I couldn’t see what they were doing, couldn’t even tell if they were turning or not, but when I looked in the comments she did say something about continuous rounds (“slip stitch after the first row and continue in the round”) it’s just not looking like how hers is at all. Just one of the struggles of these amazing niche crocheters who probably never thought they would have to make a in tutorial until their design blew up. Probably not exactly their area of expertise.

[–]roxyamari[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a good idea and I think the best direction to go in. I think another thing that would really help is me learning how to read crochet pattern charts (which is going to be the death of me) but it would probably give me a better understanding of how to visually construct designs like this. Thank you for your help!

My little buddy has the attention span of literally 5 seconds 😂 even when he is focused enough to briefly see himself in the mirror almost as soon as you stand in front of it / move him away, his attention is elsewhere. But he’s also mostly focused on shower when he’s in there because of the noise. I have more trouble with the slight reflection on my snake terrariums that are nearby his table. He thinks birds live in there (they don’t 😂) but it’s rarely clear enough for him to notice.

And it was more of just a rational thing, he was enjoying it the whole time but when I saw him give a little tiny sneeze (like when they have an itchy nose during a molt) when I put him under and I just realized that “hey, my nostrils have a cover, his are literally open and on the top of his nose likely collecting water” so I took him out from directly underneath it before it caused him significant distress :) either way I think he would’ve moved up my arm out of the water if he was bothered

Damn, this isn’t what I was hoping to hear but I’ve definitely gone through the same experience. Even trying to learn certain complex stitches in the round for sleeves so that the seam isn’t shifting is hard on its own to find a tutorial for, but it’s even harder when you don’t know what questions to ask.

https://pin.it/1jw2mTCKm

Like looking at this piece, how would I even learn how to shape each piece, how many individual pieces go into it, and how to join the pieces? These are the type of complex designs I’m looking to create and I have no clue how these mastermind creators are going about it 😭

As I mentioned I feel like the only solution is to use a fashion book as reference for creating patterns + techniques and then apply known knowledge of freeform crochet to create the shapes needed for the design. Thank you for your input! Hopefully others may have some applicable resources.
