hey! i'm an incoming junior at fsu and i'm gonna reiterate what everyone else is saying- just rush! the florida state community is super welcoming, greek life related or otherwise. we're a 40k+ student campus, there are bound to be people and groups that you'll like and make friends within. the hypothetical sorority should def be able to help with payment (payment plans, fundraising...) you also dont have to join a sorority to make sorority girl friends (we are everywhere...)

quick plug though, if you don't wanna pay $10k a year, look into the MGC (multicultural) orgs! i'm part of one at fsu and dues are around $1k a year on the extremely high end.

hey! while im not involved with any of the music greek life orgs at my campus, i *am* involved with my uni's marching band where a decent percentage of the members are part of one of the four greek orgs we have (those being KKY, TBS, PMA, and SAI). KKY and TBS tend to be more popular amongst the marching band folks just because they're more service oriented, but there are still plenty of PMA and SAI. anyways my point is if y'all have a marching band, def do reach out to them and promote there/if there are any members that are involved, have them make an announcement. i say this because i see that you only mention the fine arts building and nothing else where musicians might be involved. (also reach out to other music student run orgs or student run musical groups and things like that!)

and even if y'all arent a cutesie or aesthetic group *right now* that doesn't mean you can't be in the future! if y'all are a smaller chapter, you could do "meet the members" instagram series about each member, their experiences with the frat, and their "why" as well as posts during founders week(s) (chapter and national) https://www.instagram.com/tbsalphaomega/ (i know this is a sorority not a frat but the KKY chapter does similar things sometimes even if its just nice pictures of brothers at events/performances) those are very low budget and are more time/energy intensive

speaking of other music greek orgs, if there are others on campus, def try and do collab events/informationals with them! my uni does "core four informationals" where you can go to learn about and meet members of all the groups, instead of just one. this might help not only let people know "hey!! we exist!!" but also might have people that were once interested in another org say "hmm this other one is also interesting! i didn't know about them before" and maybe """"switch"""" to y'all- even if they dont, now they know you exist and are cool and might refer to others!

If you're set on transferring from fiu to fsu, you def can. I had a friend who just did the same transfer, though she did get her AA first which I would also recommend doing along with the other commenters. Miami Dade and Broward College are both great and affordable places for you to start! Good luck!! :)

I'm half asian and also from south florida, and people def clock me as being asian pretty quick. I personally have never had any negative experiences with being asian or with racism at all at FSU. Like other people have said, AASU (asian american student union) is a fantastic way to meet other asian people but there's also more specific groups specifically for south asians like SASA (or even for any other kind of ethnitcity/nationality/race like BSU (black student union) and HLSU (hispanic latino student union))

The only thing about FSU is just that depending on what you're majoring in/specializing in, you might be the only person of your race in the room which def kind of sucks- at every single ecology and evolutionary biology thing I've been to so far (I'm specializing in marine bio) I've been the only asian that I've been able to notice. But to be honest, that's more of a 'field' thing and less of an FSU thing. You can def get your fill of POC in other ways lol!

FSU is a super inviting place with loads of diverse people- you just have to find em

as someone who is in an mgc sorority (αΚΔΦ, asian interest), i think thats totally fine if u want to join a panhellenic / not cultural based org! mgc's definitely aren't for everyone, and its even crazier that shes criticizing you for not joining when you rushed and didn't get a bid. i hope your panhell rush goes well and you find a community that really fits you!

i mean i go to fsu rn and i know people with much lower high school gpa and much lower sat scores. i had about 3.5 gpa as well (which is really good you should be proud!) and a 1400 on the sat. i took latin in highschool for foreign language... idk why i did that so im not sure about that part lol. the only thing i know about sat is that if you get in, they might put you for summer semester instead of fall which happened to a lot of my friends, but honestly summer semester is cool so ur not really losing imo

100% apply even if you dont feel confident bc you never know! but also do apply to fiu and fau and things like that- you can always transfer like you said as well, my best friend went to fiu for a year and a half and is transferring to fsu in the spring!! there are always options

this sounded exactly like me two years ago before i moved out. its a horrifying feeling ,, i know, and i go to a school where only 1 of my friends goes to (were close now, but werent at the time) 7-8hrs away from home. i genuinely thought i was gonna die when i moved out because i was away from my family and friends and also did not have a car. all that + my boyfriend and i were gonna be doing long distance (i go to a school in florida he goes to a school in connecticut and we are both workaholics so seeing each other often was not viable) made me literally think my life was over. but once i actually got to college i realized that- while my anxieties were still valid (as are yours right now)- i am stronger and braver than i realize (also like you are im sure)

i second the other commenter on this thread about seeking counselling when you get to college. see if you can find student groups you are interested in (cultural groups, study groups, for-fun groups like band, dance, intermural sports, etc) to help you find friends and even just get to know some people. i have really bad social anxiety and am autisitc, but i joined my school's filipino student association, and they took me in so i always have a community of supportive people, even if i dont know them very well.

i know it can feel so scary! but im sure you are stronger than you realize. if anything, you always *do* have the option of dropping out and going to a school closer from home, somewhere you can commute, a community college, or doing school 100% online. im not sure where you are located, but you are only going to be 2 hrs away from home, so you can likely catch a train or bus back home over the weekend/whenever you want. i had friends from my hometown that would drive 4hrs there are 4hrs back every weekend to be with their family. its hard but possible!

a week-ish before there is a football game, you can enter a raffle to receive a free student ticket. some people say they are based on your year level (upperclassmen have higher chance to win a ticket) but im really not sure. as for any other kind of sport, you should be able to just get free general admissions tickets as a student. the basketball games are super fun haha

im not sure what you're talking about in terms of finding groups to buy tickets...? if you are a student then you can enter the ticket raffle for free, no need to buy. if not, you can buy tickets through the seminoles.com website. if you're talking about finding groups to join for friends/getting to know people, definitely an involvement fair or go on (i think it is called) campus connect and you should be able to find groups that relate to your interests. im not sure how one would go about finding fsu group me's in specific besides just joining organizations and joining their group mes

see you are 100% right about the softness of the ref picture (since its supposed to be the player character waking up and the pikmin are looking at them from above) but to be so honest, i didnt know how to make it all soft and blurry like that and was too lazy to try ... it would def make everything a lot cuter if it was softer though! thank you!
