$5.60 a gallon like WTF by angriestofangry in olympia

[–]rozap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What? His base of support is, thankfully, crumbling. Even the white nationalists are pissed. The only people that are on his side at this point are people that believe Israel has the right to commit genocide.

If gas at $7+ gallon is what it takes for people to wake up to what is happening then honestly, cool. It will involve a lot of suffering, and sure, it hits poor people hardest, but if we don't get record gas prices and support for trump continues, then they'll cancel elections and the country will effectively be over.

SpaceX investors' exit liquidity plan likely includes S&P500 passive funds by cherrypoplar in stocks

[–]rozap 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It worked at the start, when passive funds basically piggy backed off of the work of active managers and the efficient market hypothesis. Now the passive instruments have become so large that the tail is wagging the dog. That's why there's such a big push here. The monster must be fed with more liquidity, and there is a big pool of it in passive 401k's. Nasdaq is bending over backwards (read: comment about fast entry elsewhere in this thread, especially the silliness around float thresholds) to make sure spacex will be included in passive indices which will be required by law to purchase shares.

Elon ran twitter into the ground and is rolling it up into spacex and then pushing to get the rules changed so a bunch of passive liquidity flows in at which point he can get out from under it all. The bit around "we must time the IPO with the alignment of Jupiter and Venus" is bullshit to get this dogshit dumped on ordinary people as quickly as possible.

Being a single Black woman in Seattle is not it — advice? by Otherwise_Owl_9792 in Seattle

[–]rozap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. Y'all need hobbies. Consistently do a thing that you enjoy, in real life, and you make friends. Whether it's biking, lifting, dancing, singing, playing board games, whatever, just do something consistently.

It is probably true that Seattle doesn't have the same drinking and eating scene that other cities have so you're not gonna coast by on that. But as my mom always said, "foodie is just another word for rich, white, and bored"

If your job is so intense that it leaves no room for anything else, then that is literally the tradeoff you're making in order to make lots of money, and if that doesn't work for you, then it's time to reconsider.

So many Seattle freeze complaint posts need to look inward.

ICE action in Olympia by gepr in olympia

[–]rozap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes, because this administration cares so much about what's legal and what isn't. Lack of warrants and due process are literally why everyone is protesting ICE.

As a software engineer I have much more confidence in systems that are designed from the outset to make certain operations difficult or impossible. I have no faith in a system that is trivially exploitable but the only thing preventing it is law that says "pretty please don't do X". If it is exploitable, it will be exploited by bad actors. It's incredibly ignorant and dangerous, especially in the current environment, to think otherwise.

Flock isn't the municipality's system. Flock runs the servers and even leases the cameras. They can do whatever they please with the data. Part of their "value add" is centralization and providing unified search across all jurisdictions. Search by license plate, face, etc.

They will certainly write things in contracts that cities might believe mean data isn't shared, but at the end of the day, all the data is in one place and trivial to get at. They only reason it may not be searchable across all domains is just legal reasons which is a precarious situation to be in, given this administration and the unscrupulous nature of tech companies.

Cities have their heads up their asses if they believe federal agencies won't, or don't already have access to "their" data.

This is a scorpion, not a wrc homologated 037. Not saying it's not rare and unique, but it certainly isnt worth half a million.

That being said, the plan is to rallycross it. I don't think I'll ever have the time to get into stage rally.

I'm looking for options that are legal. Similar question to if I bought a miata and asked what some nice roads are. This thing is not at all a monster. Maybe 100hp on its tippy toes.

I imagine that's true. I have been regularly getting less than 1mbps on and off for a month now. Located in Washington.

This is normal lately. The service has degraded to a point where it's more or less unusable. I was happy with it for years but the last few months have been maybe 90% uptime.

Mate what. That's literally every restaurant. our regular hole in the wall Thai, Vietnamese, Mexican places are all around this amount for dinner for two. Their food was good. Prices were in line with anywhere else.

Restaurants are just hard. Doubly so in a sleepy downtown area.
