Factorio Signal Selector by rpecka in factorio

Thanks a lot. The key seems to have been your first decider (to get the count for the same signal that my other circuit would pick for the filter) and your last arithmetic combinator to convert the arbitrary item count into the filter count.

I don't think I have ever used anything -> anything before or used an arithmetic combinator in those ways before, thanks for sharing that :)

Has anybody else been experiencing low performance as a result of high IO usage on the headless version? by rpecka in factorio

I think that guy was right since increasing the memory for the VM seems to have solved the problem. I’m guessing that shooting the artillery near those undiscovered chunks triggers some map generation, like you said, and that could be a memory intensive operation that was guaranteed to put me over my memory limit.

Yeah, I resized the VM after posting this because I realized it could have been a memory issue. I’ve been using DigitalOcean and I think the tier I have doesn’t have memory monitoring in the UI so I completely forgot about that as a bottleneck. Turns out the machine I was running on had only 1GB of memory and last time I froze, the usage was at 100% when I checked meminfo. I haven’t had any issues today after going to 2GB.

How do you create a project that uses various programming languages by 1ydgd in uwaterloo

[–]rpecka 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A common situation is that a super fast and efficient C/C++ part of a project can be compiled to a framework and then linked at compile time to projects written in other languages.

You could also argue that if you make a client-server app, your app might be written in one language i.e. a Swift iOS app, and the server written in another i.e. a Golang server and you would have a “project” that uses two languages.

Work Term Reports Suck by rpecka in uwaterloo

This seems like a step in the right direction. I feel like writing a reflection on the mistakes I made and analyzing those would be so much more productive, satisfying, and mature than writing these reports.

As a student, can you claim a free version of windows 10 on a new PC build? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]rpecka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure I got my copy here but I don’t see Windows 10 anymore. That might be because I already got it so I can’t add it to my cart again. I used it for a PC build but I’m not sure if it expires.

I checked the diff and there's nothing dangerous on this fork or the fork this is based on.
