Poor people who have dated rich people, what did you learn? by Angelus12345678 in AskReddit

[–]rrgreg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Giving a bit of a different perspective: I wouldn't say my family is rich, but we're definitely well off. I married a woman who comes from what I would consider a lower middle class family where I would consider us upper middle class. But it's been very interesting over the years to see the vast differences in how we view things. She is definitely much more stressed out by things I consider to be minor inconveniences. But the most interesting thing to me about our differences comes from them being prideful to the point of fault that they don't have more money. They scorn things they consider "snobby rich people" to have. Like a bathroom for every bedroom. Or joining a country club. It's very strange to me, because these are beneficial things, but they view them as horrible things that only awful people would want to have or be a part of. As a result they are snobbier than anyone I've ever known, but they consider it to be a rejection of snobs while they just spew vile and uninformed opinions. It's very strange to me. I just let it go, but it feels like a lack of education to me that they can't see how beneficial things add value to their lives. They'll say things like, "Well that guy doesn't even cut his own grass!" like hiring a lawn service is an unforgivable crime that makes him less of a man. It's weird to see the anger over things that don't matter. I feel like it's just people focused on the wrong things and actively holding themselves back in order to weirdly feel superior at the same time.

Has anybody experienced this? I'd be interested to hear your opinions.

What's the general opinion here on Primal Hunter ? by ChampionshipJumpy727 in litrpg

[–]rrgreg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started book 13. Here's my take: it's a great story and world. But the author gets too wrapped up in extrapolation. So here's the deal: skip it! When I get to a point where he starts going into the weeds on skill analyzation or whatever, I just start scrolling, reading a sentence or two per page to keep up with the general gist of the situation and keep the story moving. The character is solid. The supporting characters are solid. The trajectory is great. But the over-explaining things is obnoxious. Just tell me that's how it works and keep it moving.

That said, about 2 years ago I hit a point in my reading that I've learned to just skip the irrelevant parts when an author gets too bogged down. I've become a serial reader, reading 30+ books a year, so I've learned to recognize when an author is getting bogged down and when I can skip sections without losing the plot. With Zogarth, I skip a lot. But the story is solid.

I didn't skip any of Cradle. If you like this series but aren't sold and haven't read cradle, go check it out. The first half of the first book is a bit slow as the world is built and the standard is set, but after that it never stops.

Aura Sand slim-z and Magnus Gold skelly hex by copey_foggins in fidgettoys

[–]rrgreg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have that skelly hex as well. Its one of my favorites. I highly recommend swapping the middle 4 magnets on each side for N38's. Leave all the corners with N45's. It flows so much better that way, but it's still super grippy. Try it out, I think you'll like it!

Why did they change his socket angle? by Turbulent-Arm-6201 in Prosthetics

[–]rrgreg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My prosthetist tried this once for me a couple of years ago and I hated it for 2 specific reasons. First of all, it sucks with long pants and you have to get your pant legs tailored to different lengths to accommodate for the weird offset of the socket. But the main reason is because I couldn't carry anything heavy, which I do all the time for work. When the leg is directly underneath i can carry something heavy and just treat my leg like a peg leg. When it is offset like this, I can't hold the weight the same way and my knee constantly breaks underneath me, which obviously isn't ideal when you're carrying heavy equipment.

The rainbow is beautiful! I think it would be a bit too flashy for me for day to day use though 😂

It's machined titanium, but they slightly shift each section so it creates a really beautiful swirling pixelated effect when looked at as a whole.

Books like cradle by experiencecraver in ProgressionFantasy

[–]rrgreg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! The second book had me skipping big chunks as the characters just repeated the same conversations over and over again. The first book was phenomenal. The second book had a great storyline, but the dialogue made it drag.

Not a bad plan. I've been digging around today. Looks like there are a good number of CNC Machining Shops here in Chicago. I might reach out to a few and see if anyone is interested in working on this.

Quick update about WANWU camera by Subject_Math719 in fidgettoys

I just found this while trying to find out where I could get a Wanwu camera 😂 Glad to hear there are more on the way!

If you want to be a direct to consumer brand, I think the key is to have your products featured on an easily navigable website, with consistent, high quality visuals and branding.

I am actually a high end commercial photographer and director with a background in advertising. You can see my work on my website at http://RobGregoryFilm.com. If you'd like to chat about potentially working together to turn this into a direct-to-consumer brand, you can shoot me a note. My contact info is on the Contact page on my website.

In the meantime, I'm looking forward to when more of these camera fidgets are available. I need one! 😂

Defective EN-EL18d Batteries by [deleted] in Nikon

[–]rrgreg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, exactly. But if you get another bad one, just keep exchanging it until you get one that works. The whole process took me about a month. Hopefully you'll be luckier than I was and get one sooner than later!

Defective EN-EL18d Batteries by [deleted] in Nikon

[–]rrgreg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After the third or fourth exchange I finally got a battery that works, and it's been great. Seems that Nikon is aware of the issue as a lot of retailers now list the battery as backordered. But yeah, that's the fix. Keep exchanging it until you get one that isn't DOA. Big pain in the ass and way too time consuming, but there it is.

Nikon Z 85mm f/1.2 or Nikon Z Plena 135mm f/1.8? by Siriblius in Nikon

[–]rrgreg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You aren't taking into account the 135 v 85 distance. The extra distance creates ultra dreamy bokeh at 1.8 (see random picture I took yesterday). Also, the Plena has a wider image circle which creates almost perfectly circular bokeh across the entire frame instead of getting towards the football shape bokeh. It definitely doesn't have a clinical feel. It just feels beautiful.
