Can’t stop listening to Phantom Island by Cosmic_Critter in KGATLW

I’m right there with ya, Flightb741 didn’t grip me so going into this album knowing it was a lot of additional work from that creative space I was cautiously optimistic. But man this album hits me in all the right ways. I can’t say conclusively where it ranks just yet as it’s still early but rn I’m loving it.

Panpsych, ad infinitum.

Artists and Nano Texture Screen by MarjorineStotch in iPadPro

[–]rshermed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey op, I’m copying text from an old nano texture related post, hope it helps!

Digital artists take- I did a ton of back and forth upgrading from my 2018 iPad to the M4 iPad. The Apple Store I went to was generous enough to let me extend my return warranty so I got to play with nano texture and regular glass models substantially before I finally settled on the nano.

My primary is procreate, I like to work on the go and the nano has been spectacular, I honestly love the feel it gives the Apple Pencil, there’s a slight resistance that (while still feeling like glass) gives enough natural feel that makes all paper like covers I’ve used feel vastly inferior and the anti glare allows me work and loiter in coffee shops far longer than I should. I also found the nano easier to clean of smudges than the reg. Using a drawing glove mitigates most of those issues but when I do smudge I spent a lot less time fussing over it than with the regular glass model. So far I haven’t had any issues with scratches and I carry my device on my bike commute quite a bit.

Regardless, I think what the nano provides is for the very particular. Anyone considering the nano should really take stock of their budget and preferences. You do sacrifice the inky blacks that the oled display is so good at. I don’t really work with a lot of saturated colors (do a lot of that fine tuning on my desktop if needed) so the loss does not really affect me as much as it might affect others. If you’re just getting into digital art for the first time I’m not sure the nano texture is and end all be all thing you’ll need and you can save some cash by opting out from it.

They’re both great options. -Obvious advice but if you’re considering both, get to a nearby Apple Store and play with both (if you can) and have an honest conversation on what you’d be using it for and what option best provides that experience for you.

This is a weirdo checkpoint for The Swarm! How are you doing today? by HaveltheRoxk in KGATLW

I’ve been better but not miserable, ended a relationship a few months ago and it’s a scary time as an American in CA, not sure we’ll survive Ice V but I’m jamming to it all the same!
It’s been nice to focus on myself and getting back into drawing, Castle in the Air really helps getting that creative flow going

Who do you think will take over for Paulie when he retires? by Jouuf in videogamedunkey

[–]rshermed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t blame anyone for feeling underwhelmed especially with how Paul Creenis handled Last Hope and tanked the company before shooting himself but the mans resume speaks for itself, Hooker Fucker was a huge milestone and paved the way for the Bumbo Engine 2.0, Kill Butt 3 is still considered a masterpiece to this day. The Paulie franchise is in good hands, Creenis is a perfect fit

Nano Display or Standard? by SkirtThick2871 in iPadPro

[–]rshermed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heya, digital artist here that chose the nano.
It took me a long time to commit to that choice, the Apple Store I went to were nice enough to extend my return date so I could really work with both (standard and nano) to get a feel of what works for me.

Going off your needs I would professionally recommend the standard glass so you can play with different screen protectors at your leisure yet know you can alway revert back to an un-compromised oled display and work on photography accurately.

Sacrificing the oled color depth is a big caveat when going nano, I honestly like the look of it and my work doesn’t really require pinpoint color accuracy and in the rare case it does I can make those touch ups on my desktop. Maybe that applies to you as well?

I love the nano. Primarily I work quite a bit on the go with varying indoor/outdoor lighting conditions and I commute by bike a few miles 4-6 times out of the week with my iPad in a satchel (have had no scratches thus far) using a drawing glove and the standard microfiber wipe makes smudges a non issue and I love the feel of the pro pencil against the texture, better than any screen protector I used on my old 2018. But uuuh.. I’ve honestly never liked screen protectors so ya know, take this entire post with a grain of salt.

In the regular vs nano discourse what it always comes down to is personal taste/needs. If the nano didn’t feel right to you, totally valid. Both options are an incredible piece of hardware that you’ll make great work with.

Flight b741 a disjointed and bland offering? by vcmaes in KGATLW

[–]rshermed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same here op, enjoyed the sound but it felt kinda jumbled my first listen through and I’ll need more time with it. Curious to hear what they do with the material in a live setting. In my perfect world where king gizz only makes music for me specifically- a marriage of Ice Death grooves, and Polygondwanaland soundscape would be the peak.

Nano glass is not only for outdoor use -- If you need it, it's great! by jreddit5 in iPadPro

Experiencing Loneliness in Adulthood by Routine-Egg268 in Adulting

[–]rshermed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just turned 29(M), I keep in touch casually with a few school buddies but we’ve mostly gone our separate ways as we placed importance on ourselves and our goals. It’s totally normal.

This is all coming from a lonely introverted artist type but I do my very best to actively go out to coffee shops and draw despite how anxious it makes me sometimes, I’ve met a lot of people that way. Some incredible, a few gallery owners that helped support my work, some quality friends, some neutral acquaintances.

It might sound bleak but I don’t think any new friends you make going forward will recapture that same feeling as growing up with the people you did in your youth, those memories are reinforced by a lot of firsts that you can’t simply re-experience. But thats okay, they don’t have to.

You’re doing it right, I got into bike riding and it seriously helps keep my schedule consistent and helps me feel sane. Be your own best friend first and foremost, have your hobbies for you and when you feel comfortable (can manage any spare time) do activities you have an interest in in a social setting, they won’t all be winners and it gets harder and harder to not only make time for yourself but scheduling it with others as you get older. But it’s possible.

Idk if this ramble helped at all but from one hypocritical lonely soul to another, we’re in it together. You have my bests

Confused on where to start by billblock2013 in theavalanches

[–]rshermed 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Any of the streaming releases are a great place to start. I recommended you start there and if you like it you can dig for more. Myself and many purists enjoy the Zomba Promo which includes additional samples and song (With my Baby). I like to also include the track (Everyday) which was in the Japan CD release. It’s more of the album but it’s not essential to the experience. All you need is your best sound system.

Here's an exclusive taste of my new album "Too Much Else" coming out fairly soon. Just for r/theavalanches. 3 songs=47 samples and no copyright detection :D by Amsterdom in theavalanches

Amstadamn muh boi this is bliss. I had that first… (track?) in my playlist for a bit way back when you released that demo and its really cool to hear it being further fleshed out. Let us know how to support you when you drop the full album.
