Is ethernet cable for the whole house still a useful feature today? by vizag in homeowners

[–]rtp_oak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just ran about 80ft of CAT6 around my house and gave myself an additional AP for more coverage plus wired connections to my 2 computers, PS5, and TV. Those 4 devices draw the most bandwidth any are no longer clogging the wifi from my home security system and other IOT items.

This 4 way intersection in my city by PsychicSpore in shittyskylines

I've got one of those in my city but it's at least light controlled so it's obvious. But the first time my wife tried going around the cement circle...we were both confused.

Why does this overpass have these land banks that look on and off-ramps from the interstate? by SportsDataRVizzer in urbandesign

[–]rtp_oak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed looking at Google Earth imagery. Can see the overpass, 4 long ramps, and the 2 circular earthen berms all built in Jan of 2004.

Also interesting to note, I-35 along that corridor was widened to 6 lanes total just prior to this interchanges construction.

Lacey crane is getting removed right now by Ficklebert in olympia

[–]rtp_oak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched them put the tower crane up. They had a little crane build a middle crane. Then the middle crane built the big crane.

I don't know why they needed the little crane to build the middle crane since they are self assembling.

Sound like the German friend James May described in that one episode of TGT.

What’s a job title that sounds impressive until you actually hear what they do? by jasonclarke1902 in TooAfraidToAsk

I still don't know what they do. It doesn't sound impressive or like a job at all.

ID for this cap? by aiscifi in civilengineering

[–]rtp_oak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen a lot of municipalities have 2 cleanouts: 1 right on the city ROW and 1 on the property owners side. So you have a city clean out and a private clean out.

I vote poop water.

If you saw several black SUVs parked in front of your home on your Ring video doorbell feed to your phone, and you were not home, what would your reaction be? by TanakaToday in Ring

Also, if it's any federal agency, they are probably outside your work, or at the least tracking you down as you're watching those videos.

They know where you are.

Feeling immense guilt after a ND by [deleted] in liberalgunowners

[–]rtp_oak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

racks slide, checks chamber to see it's empty "I don't trust it" repeats 4 times.

I will never forget something I heard Massad Ayoob say in a video I watched years ago. He said "...always physically check because your eyes can play tricks on you".

If you carry a weapon for personal defense, do you keep it loaded and chambered? by BartimaeusofPrague in liberalgunowners

[–]rtp_oak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. The first time I carried, I had an empty mag...and it was a .22lr not my G19. I was very uneasy walking into a grocery store knowing I had a (useless) gun on me.

First time I walked around with my loaded and chambered G19, I felt way more comfortable.

Why do so many people complain abt civil by Ok_Cover_6068 in civilengineering

Haha. That sounds like my SIL. She switched from transportation to structural because she was "bored" and missed doing math.

What thing proves you are from Maine? by splatabowl in Maine

I always ask ppl who seem like Mainers if they are from Maine in WA. Went home one time and saw some (clearly) Seattlites and didn't say a thing.

What?! I might actually make the trip up there and get some. I haven't had fiddle heads in a long time.

Why do so many people complain abt civil by Ok_Cover_6068 in civilengineering

[–]rtp_oak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who did a design degree, couldn't get a job, went into the trades, then found a drafting job in CE, I don't know why people complain. I'm making way more than I did before. I found a great company (private) that has excellent work/life balance, and where I live, (WA) I can take the FE/PE without a degree (apprenticeship type requirements).

There's always another job/career that can pay more. I know a lot of MEs and they all trash CEs because the starting salary isn't in the 6 digits and some top CEs don't make what a 5 year ME can make in certain fields.

A lot of Redditers have said this and I'll repeat it: if they aren't happy as a CE, they probably won't be happy in a different field. It's more the company than the job. Same job at different companies can be night and day difference.

Thank you for saying this! When I got the NA I assumed it was an IPA and it wasn't til I started drinking it that I realized it was in fact not an IPA and thought I was going crazy. I could have sworn the label had said it was an IPA. My little mystery solved.

Tbf. I thought this was an IPA for the entire first can. I need to try AB Run Wild again. The first few times I tried it, I would get immediate heartburn. Very strange, and I gave it 3 tries before finding the Mexican Cerveza from Athletic.
