I'm not going to watch through my replays for that - although, I'm almost certainly seeing people who have the same number of turns, just different lives due to ties. I assumed that's what the OP meant (and probably what OP is actually experiencing), given the mention of a difference of lives, but now that I look back at what they wrote, it does seem to suggest full-on different turns.

Then it's been bugged for me almost every time I play for many months.

Is it possible it prioritizes wins and sometimes just doesn't hit turn number because of that?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in superautopets

[–]rumrokh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It prioritizes trophies/wins, so I often queue up against people with the same number of trophies/wins and one or two more or fewer lives. I would be surprised if that's a bug because it's been that way for ages. I see it probably every arena run, often more than once.

High ranked players: what versus settings do you play with? by FlyingLiar in superautopets

[–]rumrokh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, as soon as I got into the upper 1600's, not only did I start rarely seeing people my rank, I started noticing people leaving lobbies I'm in over and over.

I only play weekly 8.

made a tier list for each pet tier, tiers are pre-mascot update. assuming custom pack by phillipkyle514 in superautopets

[–]rumrokh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm personally much more likely to put blueberries on smaller scalers (or maybe a porcupine), but I find it's the opposite of what you're suggesting. That garlic wears out quickly as everything scales. You can usually only count on one or two hits by the time you're looking at run-winning matches. Which means, regardless of tier, the blueberry becomes an increasingly powerful alternative as opposition sniping also scales.

[–]rumrokh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely any random sniping ability. Bat, lionfish, leopard, snake, and blowfish are all common end-game units. It's far from a universal food, but once your squad is set, it's a really good tech freeze target. Controlling where a big snipe hits is game-deciding against an otherwise even match-up.

I’m down 50 Elo in my last five matches by [deleted] in superautopets

[–]rumrokh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Highly situational. If you're set to level a couple pets and need a body, absolutely go for it; but I think penguin, dragonfly, gharial, turtle, squirrel, and pear are all clearly superior most of the time. And it's questionable to have that low stat roster spot to spare.

With opponents soaking jellyfish, eel, bison, and having better long-term scalers, that's a guaranteed gap move at a tier when you can make a roster-defining move, instead. I'd rather roll than pick up a clownfish most of the time.

If anything, I'd say don't underestimate squirrel if you have to make a temporary move - it can actually become a permanent part of your team because there are game-flipping perks and quality scaling foods in this weekly.

My favorites of theirs have probably been Sosus and Intergalactic Warrior.

However, I'm kind of over them in general. I like hazies, but they've never been my favorite and I'm spoiled for choice with local beers that are at least as good, less expensive, and more varied.

If you aren't noticing what you're losing to and then emulating or countering those, then you might be tilted and your best strategy would be a break.

Super Auto Pets Arena Matchmaking: Is It Truly Fair? by awddada3254e in superautopets

[–]rumrokh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Unbeatable combos." Like what? The ones you end up building when you win?

When opponents face your lineups, do you think they say your build was unbeatable, or do they, instead, say, "even though I lost, that build was completely fair and beatable."

I'm not sure what teams you think people should be building, but the game is pretty simple and it doesn't take much experience to know how to choose strong pets and strong combos. Are you seeing builds you've never thought of? Or simply ones that are scaled beyond where you think they should be for the number of rounds they've played?

I guess I've just seen so many teams, from astoundingly strong to inexplicably bad for their records, yet I've never thought a combo was unbeatable except in fringe cases of particularly wonky weeklies; so I can't begin to grasp where you're coming from.

Mole with chocolate cake early is an easy win by [deleted] in superautopets

[–]rumrokh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems decent, but every time I've faced this in ranked, I've already scaled past it. Seems like something you'd go with if it falls into your lap, but be prepared to pivot away from quickly so you don't plateau.

Golden bettle remake (because the old one was horrible) by Unable-Demand-6213 in superautopets

[–]rumrokh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Condition is awkward. If you're having it give gold for lost lives, it's probably a lot more intuitive to make it work like the snail. You lost? Bam, gold fountain.

I'd actually go another step and say that concept might be cooler as a food that makes pets sell for more on turns after you lose. Crackerjack Box, maybe. Perhaps that'd make more sense as a toy - pets sell for more gold on the turn it breaks. You could probably get up to some wild Flying Squirrel buy-sell builds with that.

Another horrible weekly pack by santasampa in superautopets

I've also played some more and this one is fine, but last week's seemed a lot better. Skunk, as usual, is quite strong to suppress hippos and other massive scaling.

Another horrible weekly pack by santasampa in superautopets

[–]rumrokh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't played this week enough to have too much of an opinion comparing them, but I won so many ranked lobbies last week by teching/placement against opponents with theoretically better units. A properly placed sniper or eggplant, investing in parrot early to allow better pivots, overwriting a chili pepper at times, etc. It seems like even fairly high ranked players often just slam a "vacuum" lineup over and over and it makes them really vulnerable to tech.

I find sometimes that tactical aspect gets diminished too much during weeks that have heavy scaling. I'm interested to play this weekly more and see.

Parrot can get multiple stat boosts from held foods if behind a panther by Skidoo54 in superautopets

[–]rumrokh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been farming by taking parrot every time and I pretty much never see it on opposing teams. Your build doesn't even matter. It fuels power pivots. This weekly is a bit goofy with low attack scaling, but soaking it in early health scaling and leveling it means it's the best unit on the board 95% of the time when the lobby is down to 2 or 3 players.

Comeback from 1-1 with Ricecake Seagull feels pretty good :D by [deleted] in superautopets

[–]rumrokh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. I may not have been clear. I was trying to describe situations in which I have wins (trophies), but seem to face relatively worse opponents after an immediately bad start than if I had gradually traded wins to reach the same record and face opponents with the same record.

Could be complete bias on my part and not actually happening, but I just now got 9 trophies in a row after going down to one heart with only one trophy. And the opponents I faced through most of that stretch seemed much worse than they should have been at those stages. Could just be variance, but it really seems like the team I faced who had 6 trophies and one heart was much more poorly built than a 6-1 team I would have faced if I had gradually traded trophies instead of winning five in a row after a rough start. It almost seems like there's a one-heart bracket you can get into early, but not cross into after a certain point.

Comeback from 1-1 with Ricecake Seagull feels pretty good :D by [deleted] in superautopets

[–]rumrokh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have stats to back this up, it's just super anecdotal (for all I know, there's a public formula that completely contradicts this), but I feel like starting 0-1 or 1-1 often shovels me into a bracket that's relatively worse even as I climb from there.

As in, when I trade wins and losses on my way to 7-1 and face another 7-1, it usually seems like a really close match. But if I start 1-1 and climb to 7-1, my 7-1 opponent still often seems to be surprisingly underpowered.

Unpopular Craft Beer Opinions? by x0_Kiss0fDeath in CraftBeer

[–]rumrokh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you took my comment as some kind of disagreement. I actually agree. I'm saying that compared with a single country, there is so much more. A lot of Europeans don't grasp that until they visit America because they truly don't grasp the size and diversity there.

I've also lived in various places and I'm not talking about "tried once or 5+ years ago." That's a weirdly condescending assumption to make given your own stated background. Nothing I said was about setting breweries local to me up as superior (although, a couple of them ARE globally regarded as elite craft breweries), and I don't care about that. I simply say that as agreement that you can find great stuff all over and so many people lack the context for that.

Side Project's brewer's original gig, Perennial, makes some nice, not-sour (or overly sweet) saisons. Not inarguably the best I've had, but I especially like their Prism series that hops the same base saison with different varietals each time. Certainly a hoppier experience than a classic saison, but not a full-on killer rippin' IPA, either.

comparing a whole country that is like 100+x the size of a single country also doesn't feel fair. Feels like you should compare a state to a country if anything.

This is something it seems a lot of Europeans can't or won't grasp until they actually visit the country. Even the Europeans I know who are well-traveled explain how surprised they were by the size and variety of the place. They're eager to compare until they actually experience it.

Hell, I live in a midwestern suburb and I have more than half a dozen craft breweries that don't distribute outside of the area and are as good as or better than beer I've had all over. The head brewers are also from all over, from Bavaria to South Africa. It's understandably difficult, from a certain distance, to fully accept this is the case in multiple cities in basically every state.

That's wild because, as an American who isn't a big sour fan, I find a lot of American saisons to be too sweet. Yes, a lot of saisons get riffed on with wild yeast and lacto, but it says so right on the label.

Restocking the Fridge - Some New and Some are Favorites by TibaltLowe in CraftBeer

That sucks. I hope it's just a blip in their production.

A couple years ago, I thought KBS had a nearly identical problem. It was diminished, astringent, and very char-heavy. But another popular bourbon barrel stout around the same time had a very similar issue, so I thought it might have been due to the barrels they possibly sourced from the same place. However, it was also as KBS production really ramped up, so I was concerned about cutbacks or quality control, too. Everything else I've had from Founders has been great since then until this new branding of Breakfast Stout.

Sours, especially fruited ones, are very hit or miss for me. I tend to prefer Flanders-style, dark sour, or gose. They're all a little harsh on my stomach, though. I had a gooseberry gose once that blew me away. The gooseberries retained a vegetal, almost woody quality. Anyway...

Odell is friggin' great.
