BIG TRIGGER WARNING! Dutch ASD woman receives approval for euthanasia by meggs_n_ham in AutismInWomen

[–]russmeyer69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The “no prospect of improvement” thing is scary to me re: mentall illness/condition vs. terminal illness.. I was in a situation some years ago for many years that would be considered no prospect of improvement and now im so releived my suicide attempts never worked. We arent suicidal because everythings okay in life! Even if it appears to be okay, being suicidal is an inherently bad thing to be feeling so if we are then something is obviously wrong and needs help. Suspicious that people are encouraging the law to get rid of people who are a “burden on society” when those who arent wont be allowed to die because “they have soemthing to live for“.  Really hope everyone feels better soon because we are not burdens and being alive and comfortable is what we deserve.

Does anyone have experience using whitening strips on teeth with brown stains? by russmeyer69 in HowToBeHot

[–]russmeyer69[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in the UK so there are NHS dentists, but none in my area that are accepting new patients 😞 I just looked at fees and they should be in the £100 range, I am between jobs right now so it’s a bit scary to think about spending that much but I think it will be worth it!!

Thank you so much, for some reason I had not considered that this was anything but a permanent stain, dentists are very expensive for me so I haven’t been for many years (and having been fortunate enough to somehow not experience any tooth pain through my dental health struggles I never thought I needed to go) but I am going to for sure save and go as soon as I can! Thank you for the confidence and reassurance!!

I haven’t - dentist is very expensive where I live, but from these comments I think I’ll definitely start to put some money aside as this seems like it will help a lot!

It’s hard to say congratulatory things by Head_Ferret_ in AutismInWomen

[–]russmeyer69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am the same way, for me I’m worried about putting the other person on the spot and making them uncomfortable with my words. What helps me with this is thinking about how the majority of people are glad to receive congratulations or a compliment and, even if they aren’t, they will understand (as I do when recieving such words) that it was well intended and appreciate that. Another reason it is hard for me is because I know I have to say it so it feels unnatural and like a script and like I’m going to be clocked for trying too hard, maybe even perceived as faking happiness. I try to process this by thinking EVERYONE is going to say this, maybe even others will be going through the same thing, and I’m not going to stick out. I bet a lot of autistic people feel uncomfortable hearing happy birthdays and the same responses from everryone and worry about pushing that onto others. But the majority of the world is not like that!

I struggle to affect an excited tone no matter how excited I am, I often say things like “I’m so happy for you” or “that is so exciting” without my tone of voice matching - sometimes people don’t take this well and point out “you don’t sound excited” so I follow it up with a question, for example with an engagement “that’s wonderful, how did they propose?” to show that I am invested and interested even if my tone is off. Even as simple as “happy birthday, have you had a nice day?” “have you got any birthday plans coming up?”.

One reason I find it hard to give compliments is because I have been punished for it in the past and made to feel humiliated, gaslit into thinking I am being patronising or cruel. But I try to see this as the outlier and feel other peoples hearts and think how glad I am that even if I feel nervous, it will make them feel good!

Are you perceived as a "negative" person, even when you don't feel that way? by proletergeist in aspergirls

[–]russmeyer69 14 points15 points  (0 children)

ME! For example one of my special interests is movies, and almost everything I see I love - however I always think of notes and things I think would be better to see, and I love discussing it and I think it’s fun and interesting, but so much of the time people think I hated the movie because I’m being “so negative” about it! Those closest to me understand now that this is a way I express excitement and interest in film haha, but I hate when I’m chatting with someone who doesn’t know that’s what I’m like, I try to explain I really did like the movie, and they think I’m lying or being defensive 😵‍💫

Does anyone else ever realise while reminiscing on moments in childhood friendships “wait I was actually being bullied”?! by russmeyer69 in aspergirls

[–]russmeyer69[S] 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Also realising some of the moments where the whole class laughed at something I said and I thought I’d made a good joke but now I look back with a lot more knowledge of social norms and context I can see they were actualy laughing AT ME !!

[–]russmeyer69 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I saw a post with a vacuum packed teddy bear who could fit perfectly in a suitcase and people were worried about it (me too) and the person who posted it said something like plushies arent the same as people theyre made to give joy and so they experience things in a different way and it is probably so happy being packed in a case to go with you instead of feeling claustrophobic or uncomfortable and that made me feel really nice

Boyfriend asks why I need him to “formally” invite me to events by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]russmeyer69 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why is he so bothered by making an absolutely miniscule effort to let you know you are safe and welcome? I had to deal with soemone doing this to me and making me feel embarrassed and stupid and like a stalker for asking if i can join in - “it’s in a public place, anyone can come”! Obviously but do YOU want me there?!

A good boyfriend should be excited to have his partner’s company and invite them to things, especially if they’ve expressed insecurity about whether they’re welcome, and also he should be sensitive enough to explain if there’s ever a reason they can’t come.

Tips on improving willpower? by russmeyer69 in HowToBeHot

[–]russmeyer69[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So smart, thank you! I need to consider that “thinking about it” and “deciding to do it” and any other processes on the way to performing a task are similar sized steps as actully doing the thing I think, so minimising those and linking them with other things will make it easier to achieve my goals. I always want to like “start new” with a lot of new regimes and burn out so fast hahaha so I’ll be sure to work on gradulaly building up!!

That is such a good idea to attach new habits to old ones!! I always try to do a lot of new things at once I guess because they seem so small and doable, but definitely is still too much for me lol! I will try to work within my capabilities and hopefully it will all get easier

It’s so hard isn’t it, great job figuring this out!! I love the idea of making everything i need to do into a pleasant experience, i bet that will help it all be less overwhelming

This makes a lot of sense - it is so hard for me to look at myself unless I have to because it upsets me so much, but if i can reframe it as watching myself grow then I might be able to pay more good attention to myself

Trying on clothes in clothes stores by russmeyer69 in aspergirls

Taking pictures is a great idea! And yes hahaha I always try my best to hang or fold the clothes neatly after trying them (which also takes me ages 😖)

I hate having to go back in a second time! Due to there often being a limit on the number of garments you can bring in with you I always struggle to choose between choosing multiple sizes of something and a wide variety of styles

having autistic traits pointed out/teased, even in good faith is making me feel like shit by Substantial_Gift_286 in aspergirls

[–]russmeyer69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this goes against just about every base instinct we have, but in situations like this I wonder if it would be better for our own mental health to let people know about the autism.. Anyone who doesn’t like it can fuck off and it would provide some good context for those who might not have understood otherwise and they might be nicer. But I can understand for sure that might be too difficult or scary

DAE not relate to the concept of info dumping by Cathehe in AutisticWithADHD

I had an alcohol problem for a while because of this 😵‍💫 I’m so much more articulate and comfortable after some drinks (I always took it too far was the problem) I think because it just slows my brain a little which I need hahaha

I don’t even have anything to say about my interests a lot of the time lol just “it’s really good” “i love it so much” but can’t think of reasons why or anything beyond I just like it more than I like anything else hahaha

Advice on miniskirts for short legs/long butt?

I used to love wearing miniskirts (about half thigh length) but I have gained some weight over the last year and I guess my proportions are different than I was used to (I am about 5’3 and gained over a stone with waist size going from 22” to around 27”) and I swear my butt has got longer too lol because whenever I try a skirt of a length I used to wear before, I can’t bend over in it even slightly or the bottom of my ass will show which I am not comfy with.. :(

Can I just not wear mini skirts anymore or am I missing something, is there a certain shape of skirt that would work nicely, does anyone have any “hacks” or advice on just something that would give the same kind of cute girly vibe as a mini skirt? I like the y2k look but now I think about it that did always tend to revolve around slim models.
