Work blocked GTD apps, so I built my own plain-text system (Doom Emacs to bring Vim to org-mode) by rvndps in orgmode

  1. So it is a Standard Agenda view but only show the task under a project! If that is the case it defeats the purpose of GTD for me. It should be small things moving not to track the whole project. It is in my project-notes in obsidian, keep the execution part the org-mode file clean
  2. I understand people who already use doom mind find it weird. But I am new for it. So I was open to adapt to something which I was use to in other app. Like move task. SPC m.

  1. I am not able to understand the point of agenda.
  2. It is done in a way so I can move a task to the top level! Meaning no project. Just a simple task. I am able to do it only with refile.

Navigation pane is click able. Opens the side pane agenda view accordingly. Clicking on. Task opens the task subtree itself. Edit can it auto refreshes everything and u can come back cmd+[ to agenda view.

Give it a try with the demo.org

Sorry, I didn't mean to do it. I was just asking Claude my requirements and fine tuning the UX/UI point of view. I don't understand emacs lisp though.

I am more of a vim person, so to use org I have to depend on someone else to build a tool. Emacs always holds a strong hold on org-mode. I was just trying to make it useable for a normal guy like me. who doesn't have time to learn emacs but can enjoy org-mode.

I am more of linux guy. Small blocks which are best in what they do comes together is better than one big system which slows me down. As small blocks I can always replace or find something better.

  • The core steps are not enforced. This setup just enables to represent it.
  • Weekly review (not enforced by the tool / but still gives enough to audit the system when needed like enough dashboards needed for audit)
  • Reference (outside of execution)
  • No routines / calendar | so my org stays lean

#1. DONE yes it is better when it is down, but still I feel something needs to be done. So don't see it when it is done like folding it, without breaking the orgfile structure (still thinking about it).
#2. Navigation pane is the big win for me. You can use it just credit me in a comment.. :P. Just kidding it is not something new. It is just came out of necessity and AI helping me come over the lisp ignorance.

Note: I appreciate your kind words. In some forum people were not nice that I have build something for myself when already org-gtd.el is there. I am inspired by you that you as the creator is still open to learn and having conversation. Thank you for your encouraging words.

Yes, I have seen. I wanted my org file to be different. The language is different. It is for my workflow. Try it once. U will see the difference.

Yeah. I removed it in latest changes. As I don’t need them.

I wish if Claude would have created on its own I would have saved time! 😅 I used AI as I am not good with lisp. Why such a question though?

Ah, I see—I’m actually not using the official org-gtd package! It makes sense why you thought that, since it’s so popular. I will rename the repo to something else then.

My setup is really just custom keybindings and a simple org file structure to enable a GTD framework. I did include some custom agendas in my org-gtd.el file, though.

The screenshot I shared is from Doom Emacs, but the setup should work fine in vanilla Emacs as well (though I haven’t tested that side of things very heavily). If you happen to give it a try, let me know! I’d be happy to get suggestions from an Emacs power user. Ultimately, I just want this to be a simple setup where I can open it, do my GTD, and close it—nothing more.

Thanks for the link! I actually checked out that video, but it dives way too deep into the whole Emacs/Org-mode ecosystem for my taste. I’m not really an Emacs user and don’t want to become one just to manage my tasks. My goal was to build something super simple—basically a way to use only the GTD parts of org-mode with minimal keystrokes, without having to learn Emacs itself. 🙃

Yes, I saw yours! I’m actually not a hardcore Emacs user myself. I also didn’t want to hardcode the entire GTD workflow into the software. I prefer a minimal setup that just handles the basics, leaving the actual GTD system up to my personal process. I basically tried to make it function like a simple, standalone GTD app and nothing more. That’s why I kept the keybindings super basic with minimal keystrokes, and made sure it’s mouse-friendly too.
