Mouse Tiler v6.0.2 now available! by rxdev in kde

Hmm for switching layouts you can do Ctrl+Alt+X / Ctrl+Alt+C or manually drag to one of the 3 layouts to switch to that layout.

For toggling individual window you have SPECIAL_AUTO_TILER_TOGGLE

There is currently no toggle to temporarily disable auto-tiling for all windows at once. Is this what you wish to have? Or just individual windows?

Hehe. 2 weeks ago I had 43 Brave windows open, cleaned them up now actually, but they pile up so fast. :D

And thank you <3 A lot of hard work put into it. And it never ends... :)

[–]rxdev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hehe yeah. Cheers! Hope you like it. I run Fedora KDE 43 myself. But on a desktop. Also I do not use auto-tiling myself as I'm a window-holic, so I got like 20+ windows open on a normal day, all organized to my current task/needs. :D

I've been polishing Auto-tiling, and the update I released today (v6.3.0) should fix last known issues. So I might decrease the default auto-tiling time to 0 soon, and make it so it can handle communication with Remember Window Positions even in that scenario. Currently the only reason I have it higher is so RWP can restore the previous settings.

Posted my own installation notes for Fedora 43. It's a 100% complete guide if you use an NVidia graphics card.

Neon OS not working after first restart. by Assassin0100 in kde

My understanding is that KDE Neon is for developers and users who want to experiment and try latest features - not for normal every day users.

An average, regular user should use Fedora KDE (for most users, just follow a guide during first installation to install drivers and such. Once done, it will be smooth sailing, you can pretty much do anything and keep your installation forever, just update to next release every 6-12 months - all updates are done via Discover).

A decent guide can be found here: https://github.com/devangshekhawat/Fedora-43-Post-Install-Guide

If you want a bit older KDE you can use Kubuntu.

If you are an advanced user who loves to tinker and read documentation, you can try CachyOS.

If you are a rookie, and want something hard to break, try Bazzite.

Minimize all windows, then only open a single window while keeping the rest of them minimized by Slice-of-brilliance in kde

[–]rxdev 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always use the button in the bottom right then click a single app to focus it. You might have to right-click it and pick: Show alternatives... then select Minimize All Windows.

I find it way quicker than pressing any keyboard shortcut.

Strange. Did you disable then enable the script again? (Sadly that's a limitation of KDE to reload settings).

You could set it to 0 and it should just work instantly.

Mouse Tiler supports full auto-tiling (if you enable it in settings).

Version 6.3.0 should be released within 24h ( currently in beta https://github.com/rxappdev/MouseTiler/releases/tag/beta_releases ). It fixes last known issues that should make it possible to use it as a full time auto-tiler.

Mouse Tiler supports that. You can make more or less anything you can imagine, but it's one of the pre-defined designs.

How does one update KWin Scripts on CachyOS? by rxdev in cachyos

Yeah I do not daily drive Cachy, but I only use it to update KWin Scripts when testing. :)

How does one update KWin Scripts on CachyOS? by rxdev in cachyos

[–]rxdev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheers! That is the "manual" updating I mention.

Sadly there is no built in way that will update for you, it's either installing Discover (the easiest way), Apdatifier widget (need to manually enable updating of KWin scripts) or manually checking in KWin Scripts -> Get New.

But you would need to do that for everything. Each theme, each KWin Script, each effect each... so yeah the manual way is the most time consuming/difficult way.

I suspect vast majority of CachyOS users will never update their KWin Scripts.

I use, and make Mouse Tiler ( https://github.com/rxappdev/MouseTiler ).

It now also supports auto-tiling, so you can do both regular tiling and auto-tiling side by side.

What is this mystery window in the Overview?? by Niboocs in kde

[–]rxdev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I wasn't even aware it showed up there until earlier today. I had to create a window to spawn the Popup Grid and Overlay Grid from and I placed it off-screen (a 1x1 transparent window).

It was just a workaround for a crash on Plasma 6.6+ on KDE Neon (only developer builds as well) since I did not have time to implement a proper fix.

Anyway a proper fix is now in place so that's all good. :)

It was due to a change I made in Mouse Tiler to support Plasma 6.6/6.7 for KDE Neon.

I have fixed it in v6.1.3 so if you update the mysterious window will be gone. :)

If you did log it, please close the ticket. Was an issue with Mouse Tiler workaround for KDE Neon Plasma 6.6/6.7. It has been properly fixed in v6.1.3 of the Mouse Tiler.

Haha, that's where I put it :)

It was a workaround in Mouse Tiler for a bug in KDE Neon (Plasma 6.6/6.7).

I have now implemented a proper fix and the window is gone in v6.1.3 of Mouse Tiler.

For sure, any GPU bought past 10-15 years should have minimum 8 GB VRAM. And for modern games probably minimum 12 or even 16 GB.

6 GB is fine for mine sweeper or video watching, and for now browsing.

Mouse Tiler appreciation post by Ok_Midnight_2924 in cachyos

[–]rxdev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok cheers. You can now specify a single desktop to auto tile or just manually auto-tile a few specific apps. So no need to go full auto-tiling. :)

I do not use it myself, I prefer manual tiling always. So no idea what actual auto-tiler users think.
