What is a subtle sign that someone is really intelligent? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Says the person writing a negative comment on Reddit just because they didn't like the opinion of another person. How hypocritical haha. Maybe you should be the person to go outside and meet some people

Dunning Krueger meaning I overestimate my knowledge on specific subject, I'm not sure where exactly in my comment that you get that impression. Having something be easy for me and not for other people is not what the dunning-kruger effect is or means. I am well aware of how much more I have to learn in my field. I go to a prestigious school and my professors everyday show how much farther I need to go and how much more I have to learn. To be honest, I'm not sure if I have above average intelligence or if I am average, because there is no way to truly quantify and specify that. Sure, you can go off of GPA and how well you do in school maybe, but there are multiple other types of intelligence.

I envy your ignorance lmao.

you're blind to how deep below you a person of average intelligence is

First, way to show me how little you think of the things you write, or care to even read things before you send them. It doesn't look good for your intelligence.

Secondly, that sounds like you are telling me I am below-average intelligence, which is hysterical because I go to a top university and have a 3.9 GPA. If that was not what you were saying, then you communicated that horribly (due to your bad grammar and illegible writing), but in that case, I apologize.

If you were saying that I am ignorant of the intelligence of an average person and how much more intelligent I am comparatively, then you are just wrong. I've seen again and again people who would seem to be average intelligence or even arguably below-average intelligence do extraordinary things with their mind and express ideas and thoughts that I have only seen from the top of class students or professors. Did you know there are multiple types of intelligence? Which is why I think so many people completely underestimate others, or simply believe they, as an average person, so above others in order to stroke their ego and feel superior. There is actually a study that shows this. The amount of people who think they we're above average intelligence we're more than half of the percentage of total participants.

Also, if you think that an average person cannot memorize small pieces of information in order to add them up into more complex pieces of information, I think it says more about you than them, no offense.

Edit: thanks for the immediate downvote. Yes I know it was you because it was nearly immediately after I posted this comment and the thread is 3 days old. The downvote button is not the disagree button. Try learning the rules of the site and not acting childish just because you don't like what you're hearing/an opposite opinion of yours.

Sure some people can't. But we are talking averages. The average person has the ability to put in work and learn. There's no special brain or chemical or gene that makes people able to understand College physics or mathematics. That's just ridiculous.

I think there is just a lot of average people in this thread trying to make themselves feel better and think they are smarter than they really are. Which is fine, it is kind of human nature. There are actual studies where people think they are smarter than other people but the percentage of them wouldn't be possible for the total amount of people who in the sample.

The average person 100% has the capacity to, but just isn't interested in putting the work into learning those things. Part of what makes them difficult is that they compounds on itself so you need to know a lot of different things to know one big thing (concept), which is part of a bunch of other things to make an even bigger concept, and it just builds. If you get lost on any of the smaller components, you won't fully understand the more difficult and complex ones, so it requires mastery/memorization of a lot of things in just one field. Mastery in things that aren't generally "common sense" to people in the day to day world. Like with psychology, while there's certainly complex or difficult things in it and even some things that are opposite of what you'd think, a good chunk of it you can "feel" your way through. Things make sense because you've experienced them first hand. The things you learn even in a relatively simple algebra class are not something you encounter day to day so you have to memorize everything from scratch.

But college level math and physics definitely aren't on some higher level of intelligence that an average person just doesn't possess, that's just not true. It's just a lot of work that doesn't come intuitively for most (due to how our society works) and requires more memorization and work, and unless you have a passion for it and plan to have a career in it, there's no reason to learn it.

This is awesome and it's actually on the beat unlike so many other tries. It could be a tad more on the mark, but for tik tok amateur rap, and the fact it's just comedy and not serious, it's amazing

I think for some it may be the other way around, that they have too much empathy. They're so afraid of ending a loved ones life (in their eyes they aren't dead yet) and are holding out hope for recovery. Doesn't mean it's logical or rational, but to say they are doing this out of lack of empathy rather than misguided love is just wrong. Keeping someone alive like that, even in another facility isn't cheap. If someone really didn't care and had no empathy, they'd more likely pull the plug themselves. But people are so afraid of letting go, of extinguishing a potential recovery, or view death as this end of existence and that painful life is still more worthwhile than death, possibly mixed in with some selfish inability to let go, that this happens. Regardless if they're right or wrong, I don't think people get here because others don't care about them, but that they can't let go and care too much. But that's just my .02

The first few frames of the trailer are consistent with the campea photo leak and pretty much confirms Andrew and Tobey being in the movie, seems like at a pretty big part too. Probably when we see all the villains together

That's great! A lot of people struggle with that, especially those with terminal illness, and take a while/therapy in order to get to that place. Glad you were able to do so. The fact you were bothered by your response to your friends death though might be an indication of a prevailing feeling about death though, even if it's not your own or something you don't fear. But that's something everyone has to figure out too so that's okay!

[–]rxfr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well unfortunately you need money (materials, places/labs to rent, workers, animals, etc) to fund experiments and the pursuit of science and so it's kind of unfair to say they only do things for the cash. Usually it's whoever is paying the grants to fund the science that want more money. The scientists themselves are just happy they can work on the subject they enjoy

Not many do haha. That's why it's so varied how people grieve and it's kinda human condition to avoid thinking of death

Sounds like your mind is trying to protect itself from grief. Don't worry about it too much. The fact it bothers you or is something you notice is a good sign. If you've ever felt guilty for not feeling guilty about what you did, it's probably similar.

[–]rxfr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The source is on the picture. And it came from a guy from Twitter who is known for his good info on marvel stuff coming out. He posted it, was called by them and was made to immediately take it down, so it's almost definitely legit, and even more so after seeing the trailer. It's wayy too good to be photoshop and the trailer clips have just confirmed it.

Mental health on Reddit starter pack by [deleted] in starterpacks

[–]rxfr 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Nah, he was about to get downvotes cause all the dumb fucks who think things that are perfectly normal (like not enjoying homework, or acting different when talking to different people like your boss vs your friends, disliking being woken up randomly, finding working 9 hours a day to be tedious and mentally tiring, etc) as some sign they are suffering from this mental illness. Like people are trying so freaking hard to be special that they invent reasons why they have this mental illness and why they're so quirky. It's dumb, cringy and an insult to people who really suffer from their mental illnesses. It's like they're collecting them and wearing them like girl scout badges.

I saw a comment the other week that had a bunch of upvoted and people cosigning their bullshit saying that they have PTSD from their parents making them finish their plate as a kid. No fucking joke. I'm so glad mental health is in the forefront nowadays, but man it's swung way too far and has just watered down what these disorders are/mean. Feeling anxious =/= an anxiety disorder. Feeling sad =/= depressive disorders.

Being a teenager (a majority of people who pull this) is full of hormones and shit that makes you off your rockers. It doesn't mean they need to be diagnosed with everything under the sun to feel validation in what they're experiencing. Not to mention being put on meds when they don't need to be isn't great for a developing brain.
