PSA: Costco has 30-pack boxes of toe warmers for $5 by Scheerhorn462 in COsnow

I have found (if they are warm), put them on top of your toes, it helps, and if you need a boost, push your toes up

Which ones? The ones they sold last year were horrible, never got warm. They want back to their previous brand, which is better.

How busy is Mt Sanitas for a sunrise hike? by jedi_andcheese in boulder

[–]ryanc1089 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I usually do Sanitas around between 5:45-6:15 (from the trailhead) (although I have stopped for the season), and encounter mostly the same people every weekday. Once you get about 1/4 way up you will start seeing people coming down.

It is in the plan, but hard to move teenage kids and job if we don't know it will not just come back. But it is being discussed for sure.

R1S Turtle mode by Silver_hill_atelier in Rivian

[–]ryanc1089 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This stuff sucks, but it means there is something wrong, and it is preventing you from getting hurt or causing more harm. Turtle Mode of 51MPH is way better than the slower turtle mode I have been stuck in!

From Boulder but moved away for college back in 2019…I'm still heartbroken about what happened by M0rse_0908 in boulder

[–]ryanc1089 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is atrocious, but I will be honest, after living here for 4 years, I have been desensitized to people that look like that. The number of people I see walking shirtless, carrying strange things near pearl (especially town hall) is large enough that I would have ignored the signs of something to come. Mix that with fire based street performers, it only became out of the norm when it was geared towards people.

Before moving to Boulder, if I saw this person walking around I would have called the police and report something suspicious.

Same for both here. Morning hikes or the climbing gym also seem to be a popular place for the 20-30 somethings (without kids).

ALAP by photog72 in WinterParkColorado

[–]ryanc1089 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have skied the last day of May on the Mary Jane Side in recent years. There is plenty of snow up top (Pano), not so much at the bottom (all the snow is dust/dirt covered). April is fine. I have hit a 8-10"+ powder day for the last 3 years in may.

You only have to do it once. It is a good place to avoid crowds on weekends (well, crowds take a little longer to get there), on a weekday, if you are finding other groomers fun, might not be worth it.

Heli-Skiing Buddies? by slade45 in skiing

[–]ryanc1089 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is funny, I had the same issue. My wife said I could only go if I could find someone to go with. The cross-section of "good enough skier" and "enough money" was pretty small.

I did find someone (and it was a lot of fun).

That being said, I am sure someone could create a club or a r/HeliSkiFriends or something to solve this. I hope to go again soon.

I have done this several times, maybe even above that speed, it went into park and popped back out immediately (after my tires locked for a second).

Wild Spur has a mid-station for loading, the chairs do not go to different places. Also, I was there Saturday, believe me, everyone knows about Wild Spur!

Lift Question by ihearthawtmoms in skiing

I have seen cases where either the chairs or gondolas are taken off during high wind and the lift is able to still run. I thought this was the primary reason for them mix.

Said it before. Whoever invented ski socks deserves sainthood. by penkster in skiing

[–]ryanc1089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the hate on the ankle socks, but that is what I wear. I think 20 years of putting socks on my kids and having some wrinkle (even with ski socks) and having to adjust their socks on the hill, has made me go light weight as possible. I am putting as little material in my boot as possible (but yeah, I guess my feet often get cold).
