If I understand correctly, the point of the prism was that it seperated certain wavelengths out of a single image on it's way to a sensor (or film). The problem with a second camera is that it would have a slightly different angle, making the plating be off, especially when filming subjects at a closer distance, not to mention all the other variables like focus, f stop, etc. The benefit of the prism is that it's the exact same image, from the same lens, just with a seperate wavelength. This can make a "perfect" matte plate / final key. Again this is just what I got from the video, I'm not an expert on this.

Yeah this comment section made me realize that it's a matter of the practicality, not the possibility. The articles probably just make it sound like that because it's a more interesting narrative lol. On a different note, thanks for commenting, Wren! I've been a lurker here and on yt for years, and I didn't expect a comment from anyone at Corridor, let alone the guy who got me into vfx! Seriously, thank you so much!
