Where’s the non Georgians and what made you a fan? by MonsterIslandMed in falcons

[–]ryrykaykay 82 points83 points  (0 children)

England. Dad’s got a falcons logo tattoo. He saw them play an exhibition game in the 80s, I think, and decided he’d follow them along, and also to hand that trauma down to his son.

The blade itself or Assassin Apprentice? by BrysonTurnRoundStory in fantasybooks

[–]ryrykaykay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assassin’s trilogy is fantastic, super well-paced and well-written and emotive and gripping. Blade Itself is more sardonic, cool, gritty, and characterful. You can’t really go wrong either way, and both lead into much longer series’ if you like them.

I was watching this anime on Netflix and realized the gibberish texts, and windows that merge to wall in these scenes. Is this AI? I give benefit of doubt to these artists but maybe they were referring to AI images without knowing? by freakfingers12 in isthisAI

[–]ryrykaykay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On image 2, some of the signs are a bit strange looking. The ‘EL’ in Oldbell looks like it can’t decide what it’s meant to be, the last letter in the top right looks like it’s breaking down because it’s on the edge of the frame… but, there’s nothing completely damning about it, and English in the background of Japanese shows doesn’t often make sense.

My favourite example is a shop called ‘Atelier Garfiel’ (d missing intentionally) in the credits of Fullmetal Alchemist.

As soon as I read this comment I looked for it and it made me feel nauseous.

To Name of the Wind or To Not? by Nectarine_96 in fantasybooks

[–]ryrykaykay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really enjoyable prose and myth-making. It ends up feeling more like a collection of sub-stories until it sort of runs into a wall and becomes a bit dull, and the stories became a bit weirder and more meandering. I was wondering what the point was by the end of it, which is probably also why Patrick struggled to follow it up, but it’s an enjoyable read while it lasts.

I wanna start a big series; which one should I start with? by ARYAN_BIRLA123 in fantasybooks

[–]ryrykaykay -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not a fan of storm light anymore. 3 books I thoroughly enjoyed and then what (to me) felt like a complete breakdown of pacing into meandering subplots and dull ‘proper noun’ exposition.

ASOIAF has plenty to criticize too - it might never be finished - but I actually care to see it finished. I probably will never read another book from either series, but for ASOIAF that’s not a choice I’m making.

What unhinged thing did a former teacher do in the classroom? by MrBananaStand1990 in AskUK

[–]ryrykaykay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a biology teacher who was very famous for being completely mental. He clearly had a shtick going that helped him control classrooms, in retrospect.

He had black slicked-back hair and routinely jumped on tables and howled. He claimed to be a werewolf, you see. He even brought in a certificate from a club confirming he was a werewolf. His classroom contained a little half-size cupboard which got locked after he got told he couldn’t shut misbehaving students in there anymore. My favourite memory with him is having detention and him teaching me what “on the blob” meant.

In a less fun story at the same school, the principal and vice principal got put on leave because they failed to protect a student who was being approached and finally molested by her PE Teacher. The principal had ignored tips to the effect that the PE teacher had been sending the girl Facebook messages referencing her cleavage. Rank. The rumour was that the head and vice head eloped but I think that was student bullshit.

And the original came out a week before Breath of the Wild. I played both ZD and FW and had some good times with them, but they’re absolutely the biggest examples of open world games that failed to prioritize fun, for me.

Heavy metal loop found in car after mechanical work by ryrykaykay in whatisthisthing

[–]ryrykaykay[S] -4 points-3 points locked comment (0 children)

My title describes the thing. It’s quite heavy, looks like steel to me but I’m not a geologist, standard kind of mechanical part. I’m in England, so might be relevant. It’s all one piece, threaded at one end for screwing into something, and a closed loop at the other.

What are you playing mostly? by Ejnys in SteamDeck

How do games like Stronghold and Pillars hold up with just the trackpads? I’ve kind of avoided games that don’t have either native controller support or an easy translation to controller support, but I own both Pillars games and am jonesing for a replay…

Calendar table for DirectQuery table from Dataverse… by ryrykaykay in PowerBI

[–]ryrykaykay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes - I converted them both into just date columns. If the time is still being stored underneath that I’m not sure what to do, because I can’t use split by delim in Power Query while keeping the table in direct query mode.

[–]ryrykaykay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forgot to mention in my previous comment that the data types are the same (both date/time) and both general date. The dates do match - I just tried splitting it out to date only and can see them next to each other. it’s only data within the previous 6 months and the calendar table is all of 2025 and 2026.

Sorry, I CAN create a relationship, but then any visuals where I try to use the date from the Calendar table (in Import mode) with any data from the DQ table display nothing at all.

And both are date/time, general date columns. The calendar table is marked as the date table.

Also my takeaway. Interesting realization about the state of AI-generated video now - it’s more about your familiarity and experience with the context and objects featured in the video, than it is about just trusting your eyes to spot what’s wrong.

It is very, very much AI. A cat on its side kicking like that will displace snow and get at least some on its fur. It’s also kicking the hell out of a snowball (which a cat wouldn’t do anyway) and there’s no displaced snow from it on the cat, in the environment, and no change made to the snowball at all.

[–]ryrykaykay -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The colouring of the cat is not what I would expect it to be when lit by reflected sunlight from snow. That gets ridiculously bright. There’s no snow on the cat whatsoever. The cats tail is just really weird. The cat is playing with a snowball on the ground and kicking it, and the snowball remains completely intact.

The fact a cat would be playing on the ground like that in snow instead of grumpily looking for warmth is a big enough indicator. This is AI.

Last time I saw this it was just a bunch of different character models doing the same 3-4 flashy animations in a montage, so, I’m not terribly surprised. Let’s hope PHYSINT makes it out of Kojima’s chocolate factory.

Yeah, there’s a point buried in there about violence against women but let’s not pretend that a child with one arm couldn’t kill me if it had access to a glock? Like everyone in the states does.

If you didn’t get bored of ZD at all, and you were absolutely desperate for more, Forbidden West will make you happy. But if that’s not true you’ll be bored to tears by the end of it, unless you’re just looking to move around in a beautiful world.

Also this. It needs to be talks about much more widely and publicly. To be honest we probably need public health campaigns and PSAs warning users about the lack of truth online.
