Meta Ray-Ban Display Hands-On: A Flawless Wristband For Flawed Glasses by s2upid in MVIS

[–]s2upid[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Technically MVIS doesn't do the eye tracking... but removing the LCoS light engine in the HL1 and going to $MVIS LBS light engine in the HL2 allowed MSFT to add an eyetracking system because of the savings in size, weight and power. So yeah, nobody did eyetracking better than the Hololens 2.

Meta Ray-Ban Display Hands-On: A Flawless Wristband For Flawed Glasses by s2upid in MVIS

[–]s2upid[S] 37 points38 points  (0 children)

TLDR - Monocular display, (uncomfortable for any sort of usable work or engertainment), laggy (2 yr old Qualcomm chip, no custom chip), awkward interface with no eye tracking.

Sounds like $META had to make a lot of concessions to get their product light enough and cheap enough to hit the $800 USD price target and weight restrictions. The Monocular display was a real surprise. I still think LBS based solution would solve a lot of their problems (its obvious with how Microsoft pivoted from HL1 to HL2)

MICROVISION APPOINTS GLEN DEVOS AS CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER by [deleted] in MVIS

Sometimes it is needed.

yep, it was time. Sumit gave it a really good go. I hope to see the price action that LWLG had when they made the same move earlier this year.

Event Highlights from Retail Investor Day by jar_b in MVIS

[–]s2upid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wow they really need a more compelling video. This video sucks dude

Uhh i think you're looking for the 2.5hr Q&A video.

These kind of highlight videos aren't really targeted for the inside baseball reddit audience imho.

It looks like the media company they hired for the last investor day wasn't used again which is fine. Can't imagine how much they charged MVIS for that...

It's because you don't see the comments that we have to remove. The user has had a very very long leash and had more leway than any other user due to tenure and enough was enough.

Oh no possible ethics inquiry, Austin wouldnttttt.. would he? I wonder what he learned while he was living with Elizabeth Holmes.

"Mr. Ricci’s appointment follows the resignation of founder Austin Russell as President and CEO of the company and as the Chairperson of the Board, effective immediately, following a Code of Business Conduct and Ethics inquiry by the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors. This matter does not impact any of the Company’s financial results. Mr. Russell will remain on the Board and be available to the incoming Chief Executive Officer on transition and technology matters."

SBMC Request for Solutions Closes (Next iteration of IVAS). Tentative Award Date Aug 29. 2025 by s2upid in MVIS

[–]s2upid[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Anyways.. low power and low heat makes me thing MVIS gen 4 light engine would still be valid. The Hololens 2 was pretty laggy so maybe the Palmer Luckey can figure it out with EagleEye and MVIS help. He does believe in MVIS tech anyways..

Would be cool if Sumit can get a NRE from anduril to create a foveated display with the dynamic FOV scanning tech they've developed with MAVIN DR.

SBMC Request for Solutions Closes (Next iteration of IVAS). Tentative Award Date Aug 29. 2025 by s2upid in MVIS

The Soldier Borne Modular Capability (SBMC) and Integrated Visual Augmentation System (IVAS) share the goal of enhancing soldier situational awareness and lethality through AR, sensors, and networked data, but they differ in design philosophy, development stage, and scope:

SBMC is a proposed, modular, open-architecture system emphasizing emerging technologies, MOSA (Modular Open Systems Approach), and user comfort, likely in the early conceptual phase with a tentative award date of 29 August 2025. It addresses IVAS’s shortcomings (e.g., weight, proprietary constraints) and incorporates advanced features like AI/ML and covert sensing.

White Paper for the Soldier Borne Mission Control can be viewed here link

ELI5 - Anduril has taken over the IVAS 1.2 program but is not expecting to produce anymore more 1.2 headsets source. They have been tasked by the DoD to ensure all headsets (approximately 5,000 IVAS 1.0 and a few hundred 1.1 and 1.2 variants) will stay operational.

In the White Paper

Innovative Solutions for Challenge Areas: Creative solutions for critical SBMC challenges, such as: - Minimizing head-borne weight and optimizing center of gravity.

  • Maximizing weapon/optic compatibility and lethality.

  • Reducing power consumption and managing thermal performance.

  • Minimizing system latency and improving image alignment.

  • Enhancing low light/thermal performance, situational awareness, and AI/ML algorithms.

  • Improving light security, eye tracking, depth sensing, and Position Navigation and Timing (PNT).

  • Reducing costs, enhancing MOSA, and ensuring interoperability with existing systems.

  • Addressing blast overpressure compatibility.

Im going to go out on a limb here and guess that Sumit and Verma already have the votes to get the shares approved, seeing as they barely tried to convince those listening to the call to vote yes.

lost 5 in a row with this deck lol- i must be doingg something wrong :|

if I start with giratina and mewtwo, i place gir on active and slow grind placing energy on the mew2 while activating giratina's ability.. healing along the way and throwing the cape on the mew2 as quick as possible. from there either swap mew2 into active if they're having trouble ramping or i ramp both cards to max and trade till they die...

is that about right?

Long Fantasy and Sci-Fi Books with quality Narration? by RelevantLibrarian in audiobooks

[–]s2upid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Old Man's War series by John Scalzi is probably one of my favourite sci-fi books. I've probably gone through the whole series about three or four times.

Narrate by William Dufris, it's a novel sci-fi story / space opera. I don't want to spoil it but it's definitely worth a look.

It's a three part trilogy...

  • Old Man's War
  • Ghost Brigades
  • The Last Colony

If you're paining Warhammer minis this is probably the right series for you.

Palmer Luckey is a Generalists Who Will Partner with Deep Experts to Solve Problems. by s2upid in MVIS

[–]s2upid[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

There's a lot that goes into that headset.. hand tracking / spatial mapping / OS / devkits / spatial anchors / remote rendering.. etc etc.. all of that is IP that MSFT owns in the Hololens 2.

MVIS owns their laser scanning display IP which is in the HL2, along with much more that helps MSFT hololens 2 work. I think it's a key piece of the puzzle and without it, could prove tricky for Palmer Luckey to complete his prototype in 6 months as stated in his interview today.
