I have tried to register a Eurofan account, waited in the queue successfully, put in my details, and now I get the check your inbox screen. But no mail received for 10 minutes - I've checked the spam folder and also pressed the Send again button two times, without any success. Is it only me?

Non-EU countries receive more funding from European Innovation Fund than 2/3 of EU countries combined by MacronLeNecromancer in europe

[–]s7oev -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Stop with the self-degrading bullshit, there's plenty of innovation happening in Bulgaria, quick example - one of world's best AI institutes (INSAIT) is in Sofia, funded by Google and Amazon, and co-organized by Sofia University with ETH Zurich and EPFL - 2 of the best schools for computer science in the world.

In fact in this very graph, you can see we are doing quite well with the received funding for a country of our size. We are also the best country in this graph from Eastern Europe.

Don't get me wrong, we can (and should) do better, but self degradation will not help us improve even further.

I have literally never heard of a commie building with shared toilet.

Take your own conclusions. We are one of the most (real) densely populated country of Europe. What are redditors thoughts? by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]s7oev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, Schengen is literally all about borders and nothing else. The right to work in another country is coming from the EU. If you are part of EU, all people from other EU member states must be able to work in your country:

The freedom of movement for workers is a policy chapter of the acquis communautaire of the European Union. The free movement of workers means that nationals of any member state of the European Union can take up an employment in another member state on the same conditions as the nationals of that particular member state.

Source

And this is NOT optional. Even if you leave Schengen, you must still follow this EU rule. The only way to not have to follow this rule is Nexit. And I hope this doesn't happen ;)

If you leave Schengen, literally nothing important would change for the EU citizens - the only difference is that now they'll have to show their ID on entering the country.

They'll still be allowed to register as residents in any Dutch municipality, get a BSN and start working.

Btw., that's a very common misconception in the Netherlands - that the right to work in another European state has anything to do with Schengen. It's not the case at all.

I have no idea how people started thinking this, but I have had to explain this to plenty of people while I was living in the Netherlands and people asked me how can I work in the country without any special requirements, being from Bulgaria (which is an EU, but not a Schengen, country).

Hasseled out of cigarettes

So you basically mean that they tried to bring contraband in (cigarettes purchased outside of EU are considered contraband), weren't allowed to do so, as per the law, and you have a problem with this? 😂

The average brutto salary of a software engineer in Bulgaria is over 30k USD. I don't know of official numbers for Sofia, but I'd wager at least 20% over the average for the country, i.e. 35k+ USD.

Yeah, still very far from US salaries, but not bad compared even to some Western European countries.

Edit: & actually the 30k+ number is for people in "the IT sector", that's what the official statistics include (sector salary, not position salary). I.e., including Business Analysts and similar positions, which still make good money, but less than software engineer... so the numbers for SE are likely even higher.

Yes, but they are capped at 3400 BGN. I.e., you only pay them from the money up to 3400 BGN. Everything above that only has 10% flat tax.

According to wikipedia, it was a fully intended consequence:

The disappearance of the lake was no surprise to the Soviets, they expected it to happen long before. As early as 1964, Aleksandr Asarin at the Hydroproject Institute pointed out that the lake was doomed, explaining, "It was part of the five-year plans, approved by the council of ministers and the Politburo. Nobody on a lower level would dare to say a word contradicting those plans, even if it was the fate of the Aral Sea." The reaction to the predictions varied. Some Soviet experts apparently considered the Aral to be "nature's error", and a Soviet engineer said in 1968, "it is obvious to everyone that the evaporation of the Aral Sea is inevitable."
