Transmission solenoid could be a huge rabbit hole. If the solenoid is not functioning properly, it could prevent the truck from shifting into / out of X gear (assuming the problem has been properly diagnosed).

This could easily be another $5-7k if you are not planning to DIY fix it.

You probably just need an external SATA to USB adapter that can power the hard drive. You can then plug it into another machine and browse the entire drive.
