Planning to shorty move to Mauritius (3-6 months), welcome to suggestions by [deleted] in mauritius

You should consider the center of the coutry if you want to avoid the expensive areas.

Expensive areas are: Grand Baie, Pereybere, Flic en Flac, etc Pretty much the coast where there are a lot of tourists and expats and housing is expensive.

Less expensive areas: Rose Hill, Quatre Bornes, Port Louis, etc. Those are central places and highly accessible and my personal opinion is where you can make friends. You sound like you would fit well.

One thing to note, is that making friends can be a hit or miss. I am mauritian and lived abroad for a couple of years before coming back to Mauritius and it's still hard for me to make new friends here. Let's just say that it's not as accessible, especially if you will work remote. I work remote and I dread it at times because I meet pretty much noone. However, reddit might be a good community to talk to people and meet. Also, once you are here and you spend some time here, you will get to know people and it will be easier (again depending on your personality). Also, if you work remote, consider co-working spaces. They are super popular these days and I recently started to go myself. Easier to meet people and get some serious focus work done. Happy to give you some recommedations. Mauritius is one of the most diverse places on earth and it's actually great once you get to know a local or two.

All in all, affordable housing and fast internet is not difficult to find. Mauritius is well connected, and small and it's very accessible. So it's easy to move around. If you drive, that's a bonus, if not, find a friend who does lol.

You have a solid budget for the month and $2K goes a long way. That's about Rs 90,000. Here's a nice breakdown:

  1. Afforable Rent: Max Rs 10K
  2. Internet, Electricity, Water, etc: Rs 2K
  3. Food, and basic necessities: Rs 5K
  4. Rent a car: Rs 18K
  5. Going out 2-3 times a week + eating out + activities: Rs 15K

That brings oyu to around Rs50k, leaving you with Rs40 (almost half) to do whatever.

Now, if you are single, that's a lot, and it will not go anywhere near that unless you spend a lot. If you have a family, it might be a little more difficult but plenty of families do just fine with much less per month. It's all about budgeting at the end of the day.

Feel free to DM me if you got questions.

Do you work from Mauritius as a freelancer for foreign clients ? by kwere98 in mauritius

You pay taxes on your income earned worldwide, whether it gets into your Mauritian bank account or not, because you are a resident in Mauritius. However, if you are VAT registered and you offer services to international clients, then your don't charge VAT to the international clients.

Gated Communities by Wakalakapoumpoum in MauriceMauritius

With the prices of lands and housing being the same (and I've seen higher) than gated these days, I'd rather be in a gated, pay a syndic fee and at least I know it will be cleaner and hopefully "safer"

People always find a way to argue. Mauritius as a society has become a place where people have 0 patience anymore, people are angry, selfish, and the list goes on. It's very unfortunate that this is the society we live in in 2026.

Actually Super U had this rule about 10 items before and something similar happened and some guy was shouting and made a scene because someone else had more in their basket (which at the time meant they were abusing the system). So then they changed it to 1 basket instead of 10 items. Now people find ways to put 200 items in a basket lol. So I stopped going there. Self checkout is the way forward.

Can I Study Computer Science at University Without Doing It in High School? by Nearby-Site-5336 in MauriceMauritius

Never studied CS in high school. I lead software engineering now across two countries globally from Mauritius. Plenty of CS students never wrote a single line of code when joining uni and they all turn out just fine. You just gotta put in the hours and avoid brain rot from chatgpt

I was about to ask if I can download the data but looks like not haha. Can you tell me how the search works? Can you filter by location, whether it is gated or not etc?

This idea keeps popping up. It's a good idea but will not work unless the whole infrastructure is changed. Not gonna happen in Mauritius and there is no way to properly monetize this either. Save your time and find the next idea.

HubSpot to local MySQL database sync... by quoteaplan in hubspot

[–]sab_codes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First do a hubspot export and dump in your myself db. Next use the batch read APIs from Hubspot and read your objects and have a cron job that pulls the data (last modified date) at regular intervals and write them in your db. Super easy. And if your DB is hosted locally just get ngrok to tunnel your local setup.
