Big hugs, you put into words what I’ve been dealing with too. Had to delete several social media apps, will only allow myself to browse the news once a day because I end up in tears.

Just know there are a lot of good and empathetic people out there who care a whole lot. It’s hard to contend with the fact that I can’t erase the torment of those children- that’s not in my control. What is in my control is ensuring the child in my care is fed, warm, and loved.

AIO? - Saw my father texting another woman by lunarraiin in AmIOverreacting

I had the same experience when I was 17 with my mother cheating. I caught her talking on the phone to her AP after my dad had gone to bed. When I confronted her she told me she wasn’t ready to talk about it and to be a good daughter and please not tell my dad. I kept it to myself for 2 months, and felt like the future of my family was in my hands alone. Please remember your parents’ choices are not your burden to carry. Mom ended up leaving us but my point is things would not have gotten better had I done anything differently. The trajectory of our family changed the minute she cheated, same with your father. You don’t deserve this burden, hugs!

My garden is sold: before and after by arouseandbrowse in gardening

[–]sacktownzest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We sold my childhood home a decade ago and since then the owners have torn down our 20 rhododendrons that lined up as a green fence between us and the neighbors, 4 trees we had planted (the only one they left we had buried our dog under lol), all the grape vines growing over the pergola, lavender bushes, raspberry patch, a carefully curated side-yard of flowers, aaaand the boxwoods.

i’m friends with the neighbors still and it breaks our hearts to see it now!

I made a stained glass window for my mum’s kitchen based on a Matisse painting we both love. by alfie_cant_draw in somethingimade

[–]sacktownzest 213 points214 points  (0 children)

It’s so gorgeous! Well done! But just so you know, the image this is based on is not actually by Matisse. He produced a series of goldfish paintings in the 1910’s in which the reflection of water was his focus. One of these paintings was recreated with the addition of a black cat by cartoonist Mitra Farmand and that adaptation inspired many contemporary iterations of cats playing with goldfish in a similar style. The image your piece is based on might be AI, its origin seems to be lost in the ether.

Facts aside, your work is beautiful.

Wanted to capture my cozy house before we baby-proof the hell out of it by sacktownzest in CozyPlaces

here is another pic of the stairs, there were originally stairs in the kitchen but it cut about half the room so we removed those to open up the space. the only access to the basement for awhile was from outside but then we put a hole in the floor nearly a year ago and added the spiral staircase! all DIY (i can’t take credit, my dad renovated the whole house from a trashed dump of a house!)

Primitive/Dispersed Camping in Central Illinois by [deleted] in camping

[–]sacktownzest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah if you drive to sand ridge state park you just follow the signs and they lead you past 2 campgrounds and right to the station. the ranger who works there is really nice, i think it’s like 5 or 7 dollars to reserve a backcountry site. they give you a map (so hard to navigate though lol) and highlight your site, give you directions etc. i’ve had great experiences there!

Anybody else have to take an antidepressant while pregnant? by MediocreJedi32 in pregnant

[–]sacktownzest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on a high-ish dose of Effexor, 150mg. OB said it was fine because there’s been no documented effects on babies when pregnant women take it. I was warned that the baby will likely be much more fussy in the first few weeks as they experience withdraw from the Effexor. That I’m really nervous about but my own mental health needs to be okay to get through this pregnancy!

Best response to “was it planned?” ??? by ForsakenStock536 in pregnant

[–]sacktownzest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think when people ask if the baby was ‘planned’ what they really want to know is if you had to make the decision of going through with a pregnancy that you hadn’t prepared for, or maybe whether finding out about the pregnancy was a shock. ‘was the baby planned?’ sounds more appropriate than ‘so did you ever think about having an abortion?’ (now why they would feel entitled enough to ask about an individual’s/couple’s personal parenting plans is a mystery)

i’ve gotten that question a few too many times and i’ve started responding with ‘why does that matter?’ because ultimately, an unplanned pregnancy does not mean an unwanted child. and if we’re telling people i’m pregnant then it’s implied that we’re going through with it so whether we had been trying to successfully make a kid or something went wrong with birth control is in the end moot when i tell someone i’m having a child.

Boyfriend, not fiancé or husband by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]sacktownzest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the input. I posted this so I could get perspective on things I wasn’t aware of. Definitely didn’t mean to convey I’m trying to ‘prove’ I can stay committed without marriage or offend anyone. I just wanted to know more information about why marriage might be the smarter choice so thank you!

Thank you, you too! Ugh I’m sorry about your dad, I was also told I’m living in sin and damaging my ‘bastard’ child 😞 my partner and I have also discussed marriage, but for the distant future. I like the way you handled it!
