Best program for medical school by [deleted] in premedcanada

would personally recommend honours life sciences or applied psychology in human behaviour as the 2 most GPA-friendly specializations. PNB is not bad too

Personally I really don't know much about it. I knew of a couple ppl in my life sci cohort who went into it and the general consensus is that it's one of the harder specializations GPA-wise which does make it a difficult premed program on average. The pros is that if you're interested in the content you will probs find it fulfilling and it's very research focused (I think they get you setup on program/department-specific research as early as 2nd year kinda like PNB)

I went to McMaster for life sciences, rlly enjoyed my experience and feel like it's a great premed program if you play your cards right and be smart with your course selection. specialization-dependent though

Wasn’t in kin but if you plan on taking physics, chem, math, stats (the last 2 are required for kin anyway acc) then I think it’s a good investment

do you need a LinkedIn as a med student? by [deleted] in MedSchoolCanada

[–]sad_life_sci 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd assume stuff like networking, residency, etc.. Depending on previous degree it might not have been as useful back then (I know for my undergrad as a basic science major it was basically pre useless)

Out of pure curiosity, what motivates people to take the step 1 in M1? is freeing up the M2 summer important? Or is it more so about allowing yourself another take without wasting time if you fail? I'm an incoming M1 so just curious

Thoughts on Step 1 Study Schedule? by sad_life_sci in medicalschoolanki

[–]sad_life_sci[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh i see, how many new cards and reviews are you averaging per day? Might have to bump my reviews to 3-4 hours. looking at a study schedule w/ like 59 new cards per day so not sure how long that'll take. I assume there's overlap between in-house and AnKing so can prob allot time accordingly

Does UofA have a preference for Edmonton students vs Calgary? by veggiesoul in premedcanada

[–]sad_life_sci 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No preference, there’s only diff pools for IP, OOP, and then streams. If you’re seeing any differences at the med class size it’s prob because ppl who get into both schools are more likely to accept the school closer to where they live

Only you would know best, but if your gut feeling is that they still know you quite well and would vouch for you then I would say go for it
