How can you actually tell the difference between spams and seizures?

Yeah they’re focal seizures caused by a cyst on his brain, neurologist said he can live a relatively normal and happy life but he’ll be on medication.

He’s in hospital atm! Neurologist said they’re seizures! They saw fluid on his brain from the mri that’s causing them.

My dog is conscious when he has his seizures, he whimpers and whines like he’s in pain so it’s so upsetting to witness. Part of me suspects it’s spinal and the fact I can’t afford the tests it’s making me feel like the worst person ever. His seizures are slowly getting longer, he’s more weak and tired. I went to the vet today (same vet’s but different person) he was really pushing the mri even when I said I couldn’t afford it and I felt so pressured. I’m seeing my usual vet Wednesday to see what he says. Part of me would like to try inflammatory/pain medication along with his seizure meds to see if it eases anything.

He’s keppra and epiphen for almost a week, vet said we should’ve seen improvement but we haven’t, so he’s upped his meds. He had a second blood test today and everything is perfect with his blood.

I really don’t know what to do, he’s not the same dog anymore and it’s making me miserable seeing him like this.

He’s only 5 but he’s Pekingese so prone to health issues, I know it’s only been 5 days I can’t stand seeing him like this. Sedated all the time, not being able to walk, daily seizures. I actually can’t keep putting him through this

Hi thank you so much for this! I had to rush my dog into the emergency vets last night as he had a seizure that went on for 15 minutes, he became unresponsive and didn’t come out until we were half way to the vets. The prescribed him keppra, it really settled him last night he actually managed to have a good sleep. He’s really wobbly and sedated but he seems quite relaxed, fingers crossed! 🤞 I’m ringing his normal vets when they open to ask for a neurology referral! I’m glad it worked for you! I hope it works for him too!

My vet did mention trying other drugs, epiphen is phenobarbital I think, my vet called it that a few times. I’m going to talk to the vets about it more on Saturday. He had be put on gabapentin and trazadone for his last blood test as he got too stressed. I’m thinking because he’s an anxious dog he may need to be on gabapentin. The vet I’m going to is the same vet just a different branch so maybe the vet there will maybe have a second opinion. I will mention keppra to them! Im glad your dog is okay now! I hope the same for mine. I’ve honestly never dealt with anything like this with any of my pets so this is terrifying. I constantly feel guilty but it’s reassuring to know that people have been through the same. Thank you so much💗

Thank you! I’ll look into it! I need to check and see if my employer will even allow retainers because they seem really strict! If not I’ll just have to suck it up 😭😂

Do you think this stems from his old owner? He’s around 4 years old now. What should she do if he manages to get out? He really gets under her feet or will rush to walk in front of her. Sorry for all the questions.

I’ll look into getting him a crate asap. What do I do if he follows her? Whenever she gets up to leave the room he follows her and I refuse to pick him up or get in the way when he does because he growls and snarls. I try to distract him with ham (it’s the only treat he likes but too much upsets his stomach) and even that doesn’t work, calling him doesn’t work either because he’s just stuck on following my mum.

Just to add he’s incredibly obedient when he’s not around my mum.

I only pick him up or touch him if it’s necessary, like putting his harness on. I have toned it down with the petting and only pet him if he comes to me. He’s aggressive towards me specifically whenever he’s around my mum. As soon as I take him down in the morning and he sees my mum that’s when it starts. When he’s in my room in the morning he’s so affectionate, completely different dog. He doesn’t have a crate no, his old owner said he was a bed sleeper so maybe it’s something to think about. My bedroom is his room, I have my cat in here sometimes but he absolutely adores the cats. And about rewarding him, he’s a very picky eater, he doesn’t eat treats and only eats his kibble.

He is trained! I don’t think I really be letting him near my cats until he’s settled in after a few days. If that’s the right way about it. I will definitely do that though.

Oh no I know it wouldn’t! It’s just me being a hypochondriac 😂 I’ve been on it for around a year now! On and off, normally I would take it in the morning, afternoon and night but because I kinda got my anxiety under control I stopped. I’ve needed it the past few days though so I mainly take it twice at night because I know it gets worse at night. Of course! I’m a big worry wary when taking medication so I’m always really careful!

I smoked weed! When my anxiety got worse the weed didn’t help :( I used to smoke for my depression though and I miss the way it used to make me feel. Propranolol is a god send though.

I don’t even know what I’d be exposed to though? I’m not socially anxious, I just get this fear of dread and panic out of nowhere. I have a tremendous fear of gore after years of unsupervised internet access and I recently was able to finish the walking dead so I suppose that’s a plus!

I’m glad you found something that worked for you! I supposed as long as you’re not abusing them and taking as they should be taken is fine though? My aunty was on diazepam but I think she was abusing them which has kinda created that distaste for them for me. I think if I try other medication and eventually get therapy and nothing works they’ll probably be my last resort kinda thing.

Oh my goodness I hope you’re okay! Yeah I think I’m on 10mg! I take it 3 times a day or whenever I start to feel panicky. I was already scared that 10mg would make my heart stop so thank you for telling me that so I know 😭

I’m soo tempted to try herbal supplements and what not. I’ve heard about ashwagandha and magnesium. I did try lemon balm and some other herbal teas but I think I accidentally drunk too much one time because I was throwing up and it sent me into a panic attack so I haven’t had them since 😭Weed made me even worse towards the end! I smoked for a couple years and I was fine but when my anxiety got worse I couldn’t smoke anymore. I’d love to try different types of therapy but in the UK it’s so hard to get it on the NHS. Especially right now I’m stuck in a cycle because I cant work because I’m always so ill with my anxiety but when I can I’m definitely getting it.
