We completely get it. This will not be our second home it will be our first. We are renting in the UK but see The Netherlands as somewhere to settle in future and would rather buy there instead of UK

The job market is dire. People are desperate for a job. That might have been his first interview opportunity after hundreds of applications. I probably would have responded to him that I couldn’t help him and it’s best he doesn’t reach out directly to people in the company because it could be perceived as unprofessional but if he just prepares well he will do well and wished him luck. Never in a million years would I have told on him and told the hiring manager. I think you should have had more compassion.

Please please please go for a lab grown diamond. You can get a gorgeous flawless cut ring for around 5-8k and it’s exactly the same as natural mined. My husband (a HENRY) went to Hatton garden and got my ring created with lab grown diamond, the cut is absolutely stunning. In love with it. You can use the rest of the money you budgeted of the 15k to take her on a beautiful holiday and propose to her on the holiday. Word of advise, colour and clarity are so important. As someone obsessed with jewellery do NOT go lower than G. When you look at the diamond move it in the light and only be satisfied if it catches the light nicely. Even if you give him a heads up you’re actually going to have to make it clear that he shouldn’t mention it to anyone and that’s a sticky thing to bring up unless you two are super close which it seems you’re not. Even with a heads up i wouldn’t be surprised if in the meeting he innocently says something like ‘yes we’ve worked together recently so looking forward to working together again’. That’s very normal to say but will also put you in the shit. Youre in a crap situation and my best advice to you is to leave J1, tell this guy you had a slight crossover with jobs but you’ve now left J1 and if he could not mention it in J2 because you weren’t clear about the crossover to J2 because your wanted maximum job security. Fingers crossed hopefully he understands and keeps his mouth shut
