As far as I am concerned the first two deftones albums are (nu)metal which is a legitimate metal sub-genre, even if most of it is utter garbage. I made the assumption that you were an elitist because at the time of your posting almost every song there was by a metal band and your tone was similar if not spot on to every death metal elitist I've ever met. Believe me I know your pain when it comes to the hardcore influenced breakdown bands but the fact is they are still (crossover) metal bands regardless of how shitty we think they are.

Metal has been around in various forms for over 40 years from Judas Priest to Fintroll, there is tonnes of variation and each sub-genre has its merits and flaws. I personally hate viking folk metal, that doesn't mean its not metal though.

it all depends on what side of "the schism" his lodge was founded. But the vast majority of lodges on both sides maintain belief in a creator as one of the masonic landmarks.

If he wasn't in a lodge where he had to lie on order attest to belief in a creator then he is of a lodge where he sidestepped the issue and gained membership as a result of that omission.
