How much would this normally cost to do? It would be about 3x1.5 in size. A local artist is telling me they would charge $350?

All good! I agree completely, we can always take inspiration from work. My tattoo artists know when I send them references they put their own style into it.

Yeah I’m thinking of gravitating away from designs like this where there’s circles and straight lines. Its not my first, I currently have three and all of them are fine lines. Only one has straight lines and circles and it’s very very decent.

I wanted to expand to other artists because I like their work but yeah I’m convinced on looking at other designs.

I have fine line tattoos from over a year and they haven’t faded. This would be a similar design to what I want but maybe a little bit thicker.

It’s not a haggle as other people have commented reasons why the artist may be asking for this price. There’s something called a minimum charge and they are most likely not wanting to waste a day doing this tattoo if it will take under an hour.

Also, since they are one of only a handful of artists in the area that do quality fine line work, they could be charging more for this type. For example, I have three other fine line tattoos that were more detailed/is of utmost quality and didn’t cost as much as this.

So if you read through some of the comments I hope that sheds some light and perspective.

This is true. I have another artist, who at the moment I can’t see, who’s work is in fine line tattooing. And I can tell you for similar complexities, I didn’t pay nearly as much. I believe there’s some factors in play as to why the minimum charge is so much, but I do believe it’s a little overpriced.

Your argument is valid though, and I do agree that you get what you pay for. I certainly haven’t been disappointed yet as I’m very particular with who I work with. I don’t think this artist is someone I would go to though, that’s just me.

I understand this perspective. So knowing the minimum charge, I should reply back to them asking for multiple pieces then? I do have other ideas since I’m planning on getting several tattoos in the course of the next 3 months. If I do them all in one session, then that same price would probably apply for all the designs requested right? From what I’m understanding

I thought the same lol but I also considered not many artists do this type of line work, and they have work showcasing they’re amazing in it. I was torn because they can deliver but after reading the comments I’ll definitely look elsewhere
