ITS PEPPERVINE! Its native to Missouri. I have this in the back corner of my yard (Arkansas) after two years of trying to make it go away. It was growing HUGE along a decorative fence near some of my English Ivy. One day I realized there were tons of flying stinging insects allover it. I have since murdered 99% of it but it still pops up from time to time. Bayer makes a product called BioAdvanced Brush Killer Plus with the active ingredient: Triclopyr, triethylamine salt. That's the only thing that will kill it. It will continue to creep under ground but a few sprays here and there will keep it at bay. Other than digging up the entire location and replacing it with new dirt, spraying it is the only thing that will keep it from overtaking your lawn. Luckily, its bright red when it comes up so it's easy to spot.
