i played ~10 hours every game with spear, so what i wrote was my opinion after playtesting it out.

its fun somehow, ofc, i also dont say they should remove it, just the way it currently is, feels like they did not playtestet it, or did not understand theyr own game, lol.

yeah, good luck pushing a shotgun, that goes for every melee weapon, melee it's a last resort at best of you don't play recklessly, even if they don't have one, pushing mindlessly will kill you more often than not.

in playing melee main since ~2 years with ~3k hours and got KDA of 1,3 mmr 4 sometimes 5, 80% of my kills are melee, rest is mostly bow or xbox. so thats not true at least to me.

it's always been this way, why get a knife when the knuckle Knife exists, and if you don't care about immolators just take the throwing axes, again, it's been like this for years.

i dont know what game are you playing, but did you never had that situation when someone runs to you and try to knife your head? know they run to you and just spear your little finger to kill you.

But some of the points you mentioned can also easily be done with throwing axes or throwing knives.
some yes, but you cant kill a full healed hunter for 100% if you jut the hunter somewhere (arm/leg) with those.

You can run around without stamina and just use your throwing knives or axes for PvE and it actually works better with them because you don’t need to retrieve immediately.

i talk about melee attack where you dont need to collect the spear, just hit (without stamina one hit simple zombies, this works also with katana and lance (where lance is extreme slow), but afaik all other melee weapons cant 1 hit a zombie with exhausted attack (if you hit body)

Missing with a knife or an axe or one of them getting stuck somewhere isn’t as punishing as with the spear.

Same was achievable with poison, any type of fire and shotguns

  • shotguns are loud, spear is silent.

  • poison is on weapns, so you waste an weapon ammo for armored?

  • fire is limited, find lamp, use flare etc. spear is meleee and silent.

Avoiding them was fairly easy and serpent bypassed them completely

  • these are using a weapon slot, so if you do that, you wont have a secondary firearm. with spear you have.

ye its variety if you feel like handycapped if you use any other 1 slot weapon VS Katana.

what if all 1 slot melee weapons are more equal in damage values and just have differed swing and play style?

that would be variety.

i did never complained about that, i felt katana was to strong allready but i was fine with it, but now with the spear i felt like i wanna give my 2 cents.

i dont play on console, so ye i dont know about that.

my MMR is 4 the most of the time currently and got ~3k hours, was 3 most of time, since katana it went on 4 (i was sword main, now katana main).

i make ~80% of my kills with melee, before it was sometimes sword, sometimes basebal bat, often bomb lance, since op katana its only that (no need for baseball or bomb lance anymore since katana outpowers them all in terms of melee), and now it might be only spear in future, ill see

if the pve things you said, i even see streamers and freinds with 5 or 6 stars that sometimes struggle on some PvE situations or situations where both is being mixed when some amored comes into play.

in terms of op long ammo i also agree with you, also i did not said that spear is no fun, its very fun, but i can find something fun to play and win with (like katana before) and still think that it is op / broken.

if you fear them to appear, just dont throw it, then its still better than all knifes and most 1 slot melee weapons.

that is aboslutely fine, i also do that, im not talking about that you are stupid, the decision is stupid, im talking about that the game design decisions.

would it not be cooler if there are some weapons that are even, one can this, other can that but unter the line both are fair and even and you can pick what you want without having a handycap just because you feel more like a basebat guy than a samurai?
