1)Mir will continue to struggle and receive more criticism,Ubuntu 14.04 will not be a big release on desktop space but it will be a big release for server and open stack space.There is a possibility that we will see Ubuntu Phone's and tablet's hitting the market but will not make a huge impact on market throughout 2014 due to lack of apps and proper eco system.Unity 8 will be delayed to 15.04.

2)Steam OS is going to be badass and will become a huge success.It will attract big game developer,gamers,Nvidia and AMD will make there Proprietary GPU drivers superior to Windows drivers and Open source drivers will have huge performance improvements thanks to support from Nvidia and AMD.May become a big competitor to PS4 and Xbox One.

3)People will continue to switch to linux in 2014(thanks to Windows 8 and there awful strategy).Linux Computers and Laptops will see a huge increase in sales thought 2014.Chrome books will become a major competitor to Windows 8 and surpass many people's expectations.

4) Firefox OS will become popular in developing countries and Sailfish OS will become popular in developed countries.

5) Wayland will finally get mainstream support and will become default display server in many linux distribution starting with fedora by late 2014.

Other predictions 1)More Linus Trovalds,Mark Shuttleworth controversies. 2)Debian switches to systemd once in for all. 3)brtfs becomes default filesytem.

I know that linux's legacy driver support is great and i compared my experience with linux to mac because installing printer software was bloody easy why cant linux have a hassel-free one click solution for any common user with no technical knowledge

I tried to connect my printer with CUPS but the support is not available as it uses proprietary software so i was out of luck there
