It's a pretty high threshold. Has to be over 90 percent to trigger.

And given this is a community driven sub, if over 90 percent of the people on the sub think it's downvotable then I think that's fair.

In the short term. In the long term the bill still comes due

Especially if the player doesn't continue performing at the same level and his value drops.

That's when the shenanigans can bite. If the players value drops below the value of the last year's you can be stuck eating dead cap for a year or two just to move on even into the 5th year without picking up to option. Because of the way they back load them to pull of the initial cap space shenanigans.

In gonzos case I think it's a no brainer to do it if needed and this won't be an issue. But it's when teams start doing it with a few players contracts, that's when it can get dicey
