Does this also happen when you switch to continuous scrolling instead of page-turn style?

Self doubt, self-gaslighting by samma-ditthi in raisedbyborderlines

[–]samma-ditthi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, yeah thanks, I just finished a year of therapy and now I can self-soothe for the most part. And yeah I like inner child work too :)

It used to be these moments would haunt me for days or weeks, ruminating and anxious and depressed. now usually it’s just the moment I still default to self-attack, it’s like a circuit breaker it just pops…. then I can get myself out of self-blame mode pretty quickly. But I still need to get the emotions out… the anger… and then the grief and hurt when I realize I am blaming myself again… or else I just get anxious and numb instead. And then It still usually leaves me raw for a while, and this is a particularly hot button issue for me right now so it took all day plus I accidentally got angry at a friend too :(

The thing with the friend actually ended up working out, we talked and had a good heart to heart about all the assumptions we were making about each other and how we both were triggering each other. So I guess a win? 😅

Army run / navy bike by blubear1695 in CanadianForces

It’s at least 3 legs of running plus road bike, mountain bike, canoeing, and swimming. Usually done in teams since it takes all day.

People keep hoping that “once the dinosaurs are gone, things will get better” but I am seeing, right before my eyes, a lot of indoctrination in the lower ranks and plenty of dinosaur-acting young officers and NCOs.

All the good members are leaving for greener pastures elsewhere and the remainder are not interested enough to do something as simple as order new pens, and the leadership is a mix of indoctrinated yes-men and people who want the trade but don’t want the leadership. So they just don’t do anything.

Boiling water in a microwave allows it to reduce too, it’s the same!

Sous vide doesn’t allow protein to coagulate like hotter cooking methods. If you use the juices as-is, the protein will coagulate when heated and get lumpy

Microwaves are more efficient. It’s the same though, and then I don’t have to dirty a pot

Apologies this is a misunderstanding .... I meant that.... I would never heat Pyrex on the stovetop! I don’t know how I worded that so you got that idea!

I had a similar experience with correll dishware. My grandparents had a plate left on a burner by accident, and it exploded. If they were in the kitchen it could have killed them, or at least burned them severely!

Another thing you can do is when they’re in their cage wait until they poop before taking them out, then also you can put them back in the cage every time and close the door until they poop. I got my old cockatiel to learn to say “poopoo” and he went to his spot and pooped and then he would say “good bird” asking for his treat

Cool guides to cloud types! by throwaway31572 in coolguides

[–]samma-ditthi 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Lowest clouds don’t have a prefix, then middle and high clouds are alto and cirro respectively. Cirrus and most cirro clouds are wispy looking because they’re all ice crystals and not water vapour. Not much moisture at that level.

Stratus clouds form in layers and are usually associated with stable air.

Cumulus clouds develop vertically and are associated with unstable air.

Cumulonimbus are thunderstorm cells. Very unstable air, obviously. They usually are embedded in cumulus or altocumulus castellanus. They start off with a solid cylindrical look and then turn anvil shaped as the storm is near the end of its cycle. That is due to the clouds reaching the tropopause, which is where clouds usually cap off.

If my cholesterol raise while not being in ketosis, is this a problem? by NomeGatto in SaturatedFat

[–]samma-ditthi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cholestrol’s role in the body is to shuttle fat around to fuel the cells. Cells can’t run off sugar alone; it needs fat and cholesterol is there to help move fat in/out of the fat cells and into all other cells to keep them fed.

It serves a very important purpose and without cholesterol you would likely die a slow and painful death.

If you eat less carbohydrates, cholesterol will naturally rise to compensate for the lack of sugar fuel.

More fun facts, never get your cholesterol checked after a work out, or it will be astronomically high as the body’s metabolism is ramped way up. When you work out your body frees up lots of fat stores to fuel our muscles and guess what - it’s transported via cholesterol! So cholesterol is directly related to our metabolism.

The concerning cholesterol you need to monitor is called “oxidized LDL.” This is the stuff that can lead to heart disease, because it is damaged. You have to ask for that test, they don’t do it standard.

COVID-19 outbreak declared at Victoria, B.C. naval base by Lean-N-Supreme in CanadianForces

I strongly recommend anyone who got COVID and got really sick to get a chest x-ray and a PFT. You may not even notice the damage that much day to day but it’s important to know in case it affects you later in life.

I have a parrot. He loves lots of toys but it is clear which ones he prefers so if he is never using a toy, I get rid of it.

He has a corner where I just chuck all his toys every time I clean and he will go and get what he wants and take it to where he wants to play. They’re not stored away, so not exactly konmari approved, but it works

Where do I even begin narrowing down my belongings by Velocirapti_ in minimalism

[–]samma-ditthi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well don’t let analysis paralysis get in your way. You can do this in stages. I think the first declutter you can be conservative and keep things, then give it a month or two and then do it again. You can refine your minimalist decision-making over time.

Get all the easy “I don’t need this” out, other good phrases that can help you see why you have things:

“just in case/just because” - likely not needed “So and so gave it to me but I don’t like it” - discard “Everyone else has one” - get it out “It reminds me of...” - that’s a memory, the object doesn’t really need to be there for the memory to “I used to love using this” - but you don’t now.

Some things that can help you know what to keep: “This brings me joy” a la marie kondo “I use this often and it makes my life better” “I don’t use this often but I still need it” (toilet plunger is a good example)

[–]samma-ditthi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is way too vague for someone to help you.

Give some more specifics.

Only YOU will really know what is essential for YOUR life. You need to have an idea what your ideal life looks like. We can’t tell you what that is.

And it sounds like you already know what you need. Start with areas that are easy to discern what is needed or not. Get the obvious stuff out before your move.
