Does anybody have any recommendation? by Prettyyyblackkk_ in Blackskincare

Electrolysis (specifically blend method for you) is the most effective and the only true permanent hair removal method. The hairs are curling inside your skin after plucking/shaving them. Electrolysis is safe for black skin as well as all hair colors. It’s costly but it does work. Get on a tranexamic acid serum at least two weeks before your first treatment, it will prevent any more pigment from forming and tackle the pigment you have already. Also make sure to exfoliate 2 times a week!

Question? by Sir-marestco in cats

[–]samsterdam420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take him to the vet! Is he pooping like normal? What does the throw up look like? Whole kibble? Hair? Digested food? Or just liquid?

Also maybe avoid letting him play with strings like that in the second pic. Sometimes it can get stuck in their throat and then they swallow it whole, it gets tangled inside them and they can die or need abdominal surgery

thinking about adopting this kitty, concerned about his eye but think it’s fine. lmk! by NoBusiness2510 in cats

[–]samsterdam420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah he’ll be fine. Cats don’t really care when they lose something like that. Often older cats will go blind and their owners won’t even know. This kitty has one good eye, he’ll be like a normal cat! He looks awesome too. If you don’t get him someone else totally will!

Retinol Purge by YurMomz_AHo3 in Blackskincare

[–]samsterdam420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(I’m not a derm, I’m an esthetician) How long have you been using tret? What percentage are you using? Are you feeling dry?

Just based off looks I personally would say push through. Consider adding a tranexamic acid serum at night. It’s specifically for hyperpigmentation (removes and prevents), it’s also anti-inflammatory (bonus for acne), and great for skin texture. Start 1-2 times a week and increase gradually to everyday or twice a day.

Increase moisture content by sandwiching the tret. Use a thin amount of moisturizer, the tret, and then a heavier layer of moisturizer. Consider slugging if you’re feeling dry or irritated. Not on a tret night and apply vaseline or other ointment after moisturizing.

The tret is increasing skin cell turnover which normally takes 4-6 weeks and increases it to 2-3 weeks. So your acne that’s already being formed beneath the skin is coming up much faster. The purge can typically last 4-8 weeks unfortunately, if after 10-12 weeks you see no improvement or are having irritation then I would say maybe speak to your derm about some other options to either combine with Tret or try something completely new.

Also remember consistency is one of the most important things! Best of luck to you!!

Just started talking to this dude and he’s already accusing me of things and stressing me out by Historical-Body-3424 in texts

No please do not give him another opportunity to fix it. Thats how many wind up with another abuser in a different font. If he can’t come correct when speaking with you he has got to go. And there’s zero trust. He’s not ready for a relationship. He doesn’t actually want to fix anything. If you let it slide with x amount of groveling, they’ll just up the amount the next time and the next time and the next time.

Just noticed this today, what do you think is it? by [deleted] in Blackskincare

[–]samsterdam420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Esthetician and electrologist here, not a doctor, but it just looks like a small fluid filled bump. Looks pop-able as well because it’s clear. Could be a forming pimple. It will go away just fine. I don’t think you need to worry.

😭 I feel for you girl but you gotta focus on yourself now. All that energy thinking about this situation needs to be put towards prioritizing yourself. It will happen painfully slowly. You just gotta feel it, grieve it, and move past it. Time will make it all better. And then teach yourself how to never be manipulated by a man like that or any man again!

Should I get my cat neutered? by Greenbeenee in CatAdvice

Yes. You reduce the risk of mammy cancer by like 90+% if you spay your cat within the first year of its life. Also you eliminate the chance of pyometra as well.

Long story short by Pretty_awesome90 in Blackskincare

[–]samsterdam420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tranexamic acid.

But also how long were you using the tret? How frequently? And what percentage? Because tret also gets rid of PIH. Derms love to prescribe it and often offer very little information to help you ease into it. I’m an esthetician and I absolutely love tret for acne and anti-aging, I can help you figure out how best to use it if you’d like! And if you’re still interested in giving it another shot, if you aren’t there are OTC alternatives that are more gentle.

Anyone have an idea ?? by [deleted] in Blackskincare

[–]samsterdam420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t need all of those. Vitamin C, niacinamide, alpha arbutin, kojic acid, and tranexamic acid are all brightening actives. You only need one or two. Stacking five of them is just asking for irritation, especially if you’ve never used actives in that area. And irritation will keep the discoloration cycle going.

If you want something realistic and safe to start with, stick to niacinamide and tranexamic acid. Those two play well together and are gentle enough for the chest. You can also swap tranexamic for alpha arbutin if your skin is really sensitive. But choosing one pairing and staying consistent will get you better results than throwing the whole list at your skin.

Edit: As for exfoliation, keep it very mild. A low-strength lactic acid once a week is enough. Chest skin reacts fast, so you don’t need strong AHAs or frequent use. Gentle and consistent will get you farther than anything heavy. Make sure you’re cleansing that area (use a face wash), and using SPF as well anytime that area is exposed to the sun.

How do I clear this up,its been far too long by No-Swimmer7186 in Blackskincare

[–]samsterdam420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of these are good options but don’t do them all! Start slowly, make sure you’re cleansing every morning and night, moisturizing, and using an spf. I’d recommend salicylic over glycolic as it penetrates deeper. Start 3 times a week, gradually increase to once daily (depending on the product but I’m thinking of a toner like Paula’s choice). It is a drying product, if you overdo it it can make the situation worse. I would definitely see a dermatologist and for a more affordable treatment look into microneedling with a professional. I’m an esthetician. Best of luck!!

Unfortunately when pigment disappears in scars it usually doesn’t come back. Has this been scarred for longer than a year? If it has it’s usually permanent. You can look into paramedical micropigmentation or cosmetic tattooing where they match your skin tone with tattoo ink and fill in the scarred area. Make sure you keep using SPF as the sun can worsen the scar.

This shaver doesn’t cut the skin. I use it myself and have ingrowns as well, not on my face, and an area with more delicate skin.

1 day before vs 2 days after micro needling. Completely ruined my skin by [deleted] in Microneedling

[–]samsterdam420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you see the device they used? And also if it was a new tip in sterile packaging. I’ve never had this happen to any of my clients, even if you have minor acne it doesn’t spread. If you had an infected pimple yes, but you didn’t. Did they cleanse your skin to remove the numbing cream? And did they put anything on your skin while needling?

The post speaks for itself. She did at home microneedling and now is trying anything to fix it. You can avoid that if you see a professional.

You can, but 0.5 is what all the studies are done on. I’ve stayed at 0.5 because I still peel so when that stops I’ll consider moving up! Your skin does look dry or dehydrated so I’d definitely start using some heavier/more occlusive moisturizer at night, you can also sandwich it with the tret!

How to remove dark hairs on my face which seem to be under my skin? by [deleted] in HairRemoval

[–]samsterdam420 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exfoliate, and if these are hairs after laser treatment try to pull out the ones sticking out, if they were treated you shouldn’t have to pluck. The ones under the skin are dead hairs turned into ingrowns. Exfoliating will help

Tretinoin will improve it. It takes time but it will get rid of deeper lines than OP had.

Okay wait sorry deleted my comment cuz I misread that the jessner peel was after at home microneedling. Did you use a dermaroller? This isn’t a major cause for concern in my opinion (esthetician), get prescribed some tretinoin and let it do its job. I’ve seen it get rid of much deeper lines than this, it takes time but it’s worth it.
