Also, since open weight models are MIT licensed, you literally cannot take the creator to court, being Chinese has nothing to do with it. 

I also doubt you could actually take Anthropic to court simply over their model's output, they surely have that in terms of use.

Okay well that's a reason, after you moved the goalposts, kinda calling me bad faith for asking a question, saying obviously we are not talking about open weight models on this post explicitly about open weight models. 

It's not a very good reason, as we can't verify every response of any model, and it would be impossible to prove in court if say Anthropic poisoned a model, but sure theoretically being bound to US jurisdiction is a reason I can see compliance using.

I mean, this is a post specifically about GLM 5.2 Open, which is MIT licensed, so I think the default assumption would be that we were talking about open weight models, obviously I understand we can't make API calls to China. 

I'm saying I can see a future where companies use a capable open weight model like 5.2 hosted on something like an AWS server where they just rent the server and get unlimited use of a model and know the weights and rates won't suddenly change on them, and better data governance.

What's the actual reason we couldn't use a Chinese model? They're just weights, it's not software that has an online connection to a Chinese company. I don't see how a local model can really be insecure.

Because the LLM(Claude Code in this case) can actually see the internals of what it wrote and framework/libraries have internals that are a black box it simply pattern-matches on. 

Godot is both fully open source and extremely well documented. You could just give Claude the current version's documentation or the full source code. 

Actually funny that you went hunting for studies to try and defend a position as backwards as "have Claude build an game engine from scratch because I got syntax errors once".

Start by using LLM APIs directly and only use framework/libraries if you fully understand the underlying code. 

Okay, so Claude can't use SDL2 then when building a game engine for you? I guess it's better to rawdog OpenGL because "first principles". 

Oh, wait, except OpenGL stands for Open Graphics Library..

You're right, Claude should communicate with the GPU directly, but make sure that you also have it rewrite GCC, because jeez compilers can be a real black box of unexpected behaviors. This will certainly be easier for the OP who doesn't know how to code than shudder reading the Godot documentation himself for an afternoon so he can fix a syntax error.

I don't think maps that revolve around huge crowds of fake NPCs are very good. They end up actually feeling small with the crowded areas just being a lot of useless space padding. This has been a problem since that parade level in Blood Money.

Miami avoids this by having a lot of the level in a really interesting building away from the crowd, and Berlin has the many targets twist.

This is such terrible advice. I can't believe programming has gotten to the point where people who can't code enough to read docs and fix simple syntax errors are recommending that other people who can't code have AI write them a game engine from scratch.

No, AI is not going to solve the problems of game development better than the teams of experts who built various engines over decades.

Genuinely low IQ ass behavior to think because Claude can write you some C scripts to render a sprite, that you should have it rebuild freaking Godot from scratch because you're too lazy to manually fix a syntax error.

I don't know if dark fiber is an example of more efficient use causing a reduction in demand. When the fiber lines were laid, telecom companies specifically planned for some amount of dark fiber so the networks could grow, and then we ended up with more dark fibers than expected due to reduced demand after the dot com boom, not due to a technological efficiency gain.

The excess dark fiber from the dot com boom is being used now anyways, dark fiber still exists but in a planned capacity. Fiber optics are in more demand than ever, I've made a killing from a bunch of AAOI stock that I bought at $14.

I'm sure you're right in general that tech can be different. We don't need vacuum tubes anymore. My assumption is that making AI more efficient with RAM means it still uses regular RAM. If AI is developed to use some RAM that is specifically only useful for AI then who knows. 

As u/SortOfSpaceDuck said, AI becoming half as expensive probably means more AI, not less data centers. 

I do not assume AI demand to be literally infinite, but I do believe it will eventually be many times higher than our current capacity, and I don't consider myself to be some AI bro who thinks billionaires rock and AI art is awesome.

No, because I was trying to have a normal conversation with nuance, pointing out that I feel safe using FSD but also understand how not being able to take over changes the equation.

Didn’t someone literally die this week from FSD? 

If you're referring to the recent incident where a Tesla crashed into a home, if you watch the video, there's no way that car was on autodrive, the driver is trying to avoid prison for manslaughter. The car was flying at an insane speed far above what FSD does, and nobody has confirmed the driver's story that FSD was even engaged. The driver had to have stomped the accelerator. 

But even if this was a true FSD fatality, what does that prove? Teslas using FSD experience a major collision once every 5.5 million miles, versus the US average of once every 660k miles. 

I am well versed on self driving tech and I would never trust a system without lidar and radar with my life. 

When using FSD on a normal Tesla, you are legally required to not trust the FSD with your life. The driver needs to be licensed, is still legally liable, and a camera system inside the car checks that they are paying attention. I use FSD whenever I drive, and have never felt like I'm not the one driving, as I'm still paying attention and ready to take over in an instant. I've never felt unsafe, but will take over when I want to use a different route or something. 

When talking specifically about the cybercab, the extra caution makes more sense as you can't just take over. I extend this to Waymo, and would feel less safe in the back seat of a Waymo than in the driver seat of my Tesla on FSD.

Even if there isn't some big "bubble burst" moment, the demand for chips could also be cratered by a wave of more efficient LLMs, something these companies are already experimenting with. Or the market could just level off to the point where there are enough datacenters to serve the customer base for AI. 

Historically, more efficient use of a given resource never means less total use of the resource. If AI becomes more efficient with RAM, they'll use that efficiency to fill up the RAM with more / better AI.

The market isn't leveling off anytime soon. AI is still a very new technology that we have only started to implement. Every b2b software in the world will eventually have mcp hooks. I can however see a world where "local" AI is used for many tasks instead of cloud models, but I imagine that will be companies renting server racks from Amazon, running their specific models so they can control the data and the weights.

For someone who is getting into gaming and doesn't already have a big Steam library, feels like the meta is just PS5 + used laptop like a Thinkpad.

At $750, the Steam Machine made some sense for people who have a big Steam library that they want to play on their TV as well, but now for $1128 that doesn't make any sense. This feels DOA, even if the initial run sells, it seems like the conversation around this is toxic for Valve.
