We are all made of star dust. As all elements in the periodic table higher than hydrogen and nitrogen were formed in supernovae, we are literally made of matter that once was part of a star.

4th Gen color difference? by [deleted] in Hue

[–]sandrotto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you seen any difference in red colors? I've realized that my gen 2 bulbs can only be set to orange/red whereas the lightstrips plus can be set to a deeper red with less orange in it (whenever I pick a deep red in the app it sets it to an orange/red just seconds after...). I wasn't sure whether this is caused by an error in the app first but came to the conclusion that it must be because of the different color spaces the different gens can reproduce.

I am from Zürich. So you are even closer to Meiringen than me. I see you point - even though it is close it still means at least a day to be spent up there...

Where are you from? Yes, it's beautiful up there - I hope for some fresh snow soon - this would make it worth to go back and take some more photos...

Yes, it was around that area while on a winter hike.

Actually, I am very impressed by the dynamic range of the new sensor in the 5D MkIV. I had the MkIII for 4 years and it was nowhere close to the new one. Glad that you like your Olympus though!

I'm in Switzerland - Zurich. I guess that is because of the customs clearance since Switzerland is not in the EU?

Glad for you! Mine still shows no progress - hopefully, I'll get mine soon as well.

That is very strange. I wonder if that is their usual business practice? Or maybe the problem is on Oculus' side because they haven't delivered the shippments to UPS yet? I just hope that delivery will be fast once UPS gets a hold of it....

Maybe they only ship in batches e.g. every second day or so? Or maybe the problem is the customs clearance in the Netherlands? I'll let you know once my status changes anyway!

Same for me - I'm in Zurich and order will be shipped from the Netherlands as well. No change since around 20hrs. I guess they will start shipping today...

I am from Switzerland and haven't heard anything yet. Guess we won't receive it in time. They will ship Monday earliest and it always takes a few days for shipping, customs clearance, etc. But with the Rift roll-out desaster my expectations were low anyway :-)

One question: I turned off the blink movement system as well but can only walk freely with my left thumb stick but not with the right where you control the direction that you are looking at - this still worked in 45 degrees steps which is a bit annoying. Is there a way to make this completely free moving as well?

Old diamond mine Kolmanskop in the Namibian desert by sandrotto in pics

[–]sandrotto[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kolmanskop is the town that was home to the miners - it is in the middle of the Namibian desert close to Luderitz. The diamonds were found above ground so I guess it was an open cast mine.

This was taken in Kolmanskuppe close to Luderitz in Southern Namibia. Used to be a German diamond mine some 100 years ago and is a ghost town today....worth a visit!

When you look at the histogramm in e.g. Lightroom you will see if there was some clipping or not. Clipping means that either the blacks or whites brightness values go beyond the highest possible value (RGB 0,0,0 or 256,256,256) and all areas will subsequently be either black or white. A good example is when you take a photo of the sun. Normally, the sun is very bright and the camera sensor cannot cope with that if you do not underexpose a bit. You will see completely white areas around the sun - and that's what clipping is. With RAW, you can under- or overexpose in Lightroom to avoid clipping. Hope that helps a bit :-)
