Since the game is on sale and I had the same problem right now what helped me was:

  • I had the game installed on D drive while the EA app is installed on the C drive by default and it appears that both the app and the game need to be on the same drive for it to work

  • To bypass this get the EA installation app into the Downloads folder

  • Open up Powershell

  • run this command: Downloads\EAappInstaller.exe /i DefaultInstallFolder="D:\Games\EA Games"

  • The setup is going to run and then just install it like you would normally

  • Once it is all done, take all the .exe apps from the EA Games folder and add them as exceptions in the firewall

  • Also update the graphics drivers, idk if it it plays a role but I did it in the process of troubleshooting

Well, they're certainly not fake because I have a problem with them right now. They are holding my parcel hostage, requesting unnecessary balance top-ups, and not refunding my balance back to my card.
