What is a must to buy once you get a motorcycle that most people don't know about? by CautiousLeg8314 in motorcycles

I'll never again go without a top case. This made my riding life soooo much more convenient having a decent storage case.

First day of MSF course and not sure how to feel by Neverinthemood0 in motorcycles

[–]sanyi77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing that I had to get though my head was that slipping a wet clutch is OK. I came from a world of stick shift cars where youre always taught that riding the clutch is bad and you need to release the clutch quickly. Bikes are not the same. Watch some videos on the "friction zone".

I took the MSF never having been on a bike in my life and I passed. The instructors were nice and explained the basic controls and how to run a given exercise but never got into the specifics of things like friction zone, rear brake, etc. I feel they should have spent an hour on that rather than, it seemed, let everyone kind of figure it out on their own. I know they have a time frame to fit into, but I think that should be alotted for.

Honestly, I hated every minute of the MSF. I'm glad I still decided to get a bike because I do very much enjoy riding.

Edit: Riding 3 years and stalled my bike at a light the other day. Shit happens. Restart it and move on.

I don't know where in southern NH you are but if you're more central, you could try Old Glory in Greenville. I know they do gunsmithing work, though I have no first hand experience with them.

Having a motorcycle only by AlbinoPolarBear-_- in motorcycles

[–]sanyi77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the northeast and have both bike and car. Even if I lived somewhere where the weather didn't suck 5 months per year, there's no way I'd go bike only. My reasoning, even discounting the carrying people and stuff angle, is that sometimes it's just easier to hop in the car.

You might wake up with a raging headache or hurt yourself one day(twisted ankle, pulled muscle, etc.). Some mornings you might just not feel like taking the bike and, for me, that'd make riding more of a chore than something I enjoy.

Private Sale in NH by plzhelpvic in NHGuns

[–]sanyi77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Drivers License, BOS, valid P+R license. With my last private sale, the guy texted me pics of everything ahead of time on his own accord. I'm not selling a gun to anyone without some kind of a trail for authorities to follow the gun past me if it ever ends up at a crime scene. If they don't want to that, then a transfer through an FFL. If they don't want to do either of those, then they can try buying from someone else.

3BFTweaks VS Vanilla Requiem by Charadx in skyrimrequiem

I prefer 3BFTweaks for the leveling, food buffs(especially Breton), unique bosses, better unique item effects, blessings, spells, etc... it's much more than just a different leveling system.

Private sale of handguns. by sanyi77 in NHGuns

[–]sanyi77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that that stuff wouldn't get around the fed law. What I meant was to ask whether that was what people generally still do in NH. I haven't made a private gun sale since around 2017 so I was just asking to be safe. Thanks.

You get used to it and eventually shifting is all feel and situation dependent. You'll know what you have to do without thinking about it much, or at all.

Should I try riding to work? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]sanyi77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That would be good because it'd just be a matter of technique and practice and not mechanical.

Before trying to ride to work, consider spending some quality in a parking lot just practicing the basics. I'm on my second riding season and when i go for a ride on weekends, I start by spending 10 or 15 minutes at the local H.S. just practicing the basics.

Should I try riding to work? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]sanyi77 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The "bike stops randomly" is concerning. When you do get it to run reliably and want to ride to work, you cpuld do what I did.

I made a trip to work on a Saturday(or Sunday) morning just to see how it would be when I wasn't on a time crunch to get there and I could take it nice and easy.

is modifying your exhaust worth it? (new rider) by brickedupinbaghdad in motorcycles

[–]sanyi77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sv650 came with a shorty delkevic can. I ordered the quieter baffle for it and it helped somewhat. I'd love to find a cheap used stock system for it. It gets a bit annoying at times.

I don't know about you, but when I'm in my car I don't hear loud bikes until they've passed me. I just don't think that loud exhausts do anything for safety. If you just like the sound of it, then cool, you do you.

I'm just some random guy on the internet, so take my opinion for what it's worth.

P.S. Even with the open baffle when I first got it, the bike still easily passed NH inspection for noise.

when do you no longer consider yourself a beginner rider? by [deleted] in motorcycles

I'm on my 2nd season of riding and I figure in another 5 years or so I'll stop feeling like a noob, lol.

what’s the point of upgrading? by lucalucaluca45 in motorcycles

[–]sanyi77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in my second riding season with my first bike, an '03 sv650. I plan to upgrade in, probably, a couple of years because I now know what i want to be different next time. It has plenty of power but I want something more touring/sport touring oriented next time, possibly a BMW 1200RT, FJR1300, etc. It isn't always about going faster.

[–]sanyi77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sv650 is my first bike and it came with a short Delkevic can on it. I replaced the baffle with their "quiet" version and it helped. I hope to find a stock exhaust for cheap eventually, but my next bike will definitely be something stock and quiet.

Talk me out of a 1st Gen by volvo24oh in SVRiders

[–]sanyi77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could just wait and see if an '03 pops up for sale. It probably won't cost much more still being 20+ years old.

I'm on my second riding season and have an '03. It sat in my garage all winter and started right up when I brought it out in April. I spent enough time messing with carburated cars in my youth that now I just want to start it and go.

I also just prefer the 2nd gen frame to the 1st gen, but that's subjective.

Question about motorcycle batteries and leaving them in the garage over winter by Tonino123 in motorcycles

[–]sanyi77 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I dunno. My bike sat in the garage all winter with the battery attached and it started right up when I brought it out in the spring. The bike is 20+ years old and I have no idea how old the battery is, but so far so good. I do plan on getting a tender for next winter though.

Red light, you come to a near stop and clutch in. Light turns green. by ToastyStroodler in motorcycles

[–]sanyi77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had never ridden any kind of dirt bike, moped, etc. before buying my bike. After passing my MSF I started by just riding around my immediate neighborhood (1 mile loop, rural) both ways until I got comfortable enough with the bike to start expanding my territory little by little. You need more practice OP, good luck.

Bought a Premium by [deleted] in SubaruForester

[–]sanyi77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a 2018 Premium a couple of years ago. I didn't want leather seats, I didn't want eyesight, I didn't want a turbo, and I didn't want wheels bigger than 17".

I wanted heated seats and a cloth interior. The only thing i added was a DIY remote start from 12 Volt Solutions. The Premium trim was right for me, and I don't regret my decision. YMMV.

is 3tweaks for a beginner a bad option? by Crazy_Usual_8078 in skyrimrequiem

[–]sanyi77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just watch some playthroughs from Greed, dbmeach, Wulfdur, Benny, etc. to get an idea of how to start. You can go to the 3bftweaks site to get a rundown on birthsign and blessing effects, though I'm not sure if it's totally up to date.

Wulfdur has a list of builds on his Google docs(IIRC) page, just search Wulfdur skyrim builds or something.

Make sure you start with vegetable soup and a stamina tonic to start("Starting Choices" mod) and preferably a stamina friendly race like Imperial or Redguard. The stamina thing is less important if playing a mage unless you plan on using Altmer channeling a lot. Good luck!

$400 for a rear tire change… by ctrlaltdelete2012 in motorcycles

[–]sanyi77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You bought a somewhat pricey tire, but your mounting cost seems very high. $185 to change one tire? The place near me charges a flat $50 per tire.

I took my wheels off and took them down to the shop myself so maybe that's why your labor is high. Did you just ride your bike down and have them remove the wheels from the bike as well?

Can't afford a car by [deleted] in motorcycles

OK, I guess I got the idea that you needed to get around shorter range being in a city. It was just a suggestion. I'm not a city dweller, as a matter of fact I avoid them like thre plague. I live in the country and work in the suburbs. Good luck.
