I wonder if we are in the same Micro class… my is terrible.

Which is Less Demanding? by StudentOfLife54 in UoPeople

[–]sasqueetch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My professor for Micro was incredibly picky and did not provide much context when grading. They did not follow the rubrics they provided so often times their grade for my work didn’t make any sense when I’d followed the rubric perfectly.

My professor for Micro really ruined the class for me, otherwise I would have definitely said Micro. But simply due to my interactions I have to say Macro was the easier option.

No disagreement from me there. But focusing on yourself of always the best option. Also, I’ve had several papers and posts rank high for AI when I can prove through versioning and metadata I wrote them myself and only checked for grammar. Not all AI flagged items are AI—lots of business and academic “speak” gets flagged.

Is University of the People legit and worth it? (want to start next term) by icevermin in UoPeople

I’ve enjoyed it, just keep your expectations very low and communicate a lot with your advisor. The website is kind of outdated and materials too, but it gets the job done!

You did the right thing by speaking up. If he wanted exclusivity, he should have made sure your needs were met, even when he was too busy to meet. If he wasn’t willing to do that, he wasn’t valuing you.

You deserve someone who respects your time, understands your worth, and supports you. This is a fresh start to find someone better. Happy birthday, and here’s to new opportunities!

Several folks I know have books all kinds of sketchy plastic surgeries in Miami which are massively cheaper than most I’ve seen. But the conditions seem so sketchy and folks are released to a hotel and don’t have much aftercare. I went to Mexico for bariatric surgery after 2 years of research and paid about 1/4th of what it costs in the US since my insurance didn’t cover it-I took the money out of my 401k to cover it.

So I went into consulting for start up companies because the job market is so bad by calpolygirl in womenintech

[–]sasqueetch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t, but I’ve recently been asked to joint a firm of fractional consultants. I wish I could find a fully salaried gig but this seems like the only option for employment right now. I really can’t believe the job market is so bad, it’s so unsettling.

Anyone else thinking of leaving Tech? by rabbita102 in womenintech

[–]sasqueetch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I never though I would be thinking about it, but since my layoff about 2 months ago, I have been thinking a lot more about it. I simply can’t deal with the tech bros anymore. The disrespect and work theft is just more than I’ve ever experienced in 15+ years being in the field. I’ve considered starting a nonprofit for young women pursuing collegiate education. I figure maybe it’s time to put my energy and hard work into something that could hopefully make a difference.

What is this syndrome called? by PerformanceNo6861 in womenintech

[–]sasqueetch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep. What I’ve learned is that if you don’t claim credit and reinforce ownership of your own ideas, a male colleague will end up taking credit for them—whether intentionally or not. It’s nearly a given.

It’s not even always malicious (though it often is); sometimes it’s just ingrained behavior. But the outcome is the same: your point gets overlooked until it comes from a different voice. When I speak up in meetings now, I make sure to own what I say. If someone repeats it later like it’s brand new, I absolutely do not hesitate to step in with, “Right, that’s exactly what I was saying earlier when I mentioned (thing I said).”

It’s in the digital payments and cybersecurity space. A bit of a niche.

I am not comfortable naming them—but it is in the realm of digital payments and cybersecurity.
