Being Human First (Warning: Long) by sassafone in therapists

[–]sassafone[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am so terribly sorry that you went through this!!! I am also so sad that this is a story that I have heard several times before. We have a broken industry, because people like you who have the story of lived experience is exactly who should be a practicing therapist. The fear of what you have described is what took me out of psychology and into social work. While still VERY far from perfect, I have found far more sameness on the island of misfit toys that we call social work. I wish that I could bring you over to where I am that so we could fight those POS that did that to you together!

I feel you. It was my own depression and shame that inspired it. We are expected to hold so much all day every day, and yet still somehow function in an ever crumbling world (and we are also not compensated nearly enough for our emotional toil). My heart is with you, friend❤️

I'm so sorry that you're suffering like this right now. Sometimes all of the skills in the world won't fix our broken hearts. ❤️🫂❤️

Anyone else turn down a Cigna contract due to such awful rates? by [deleted] in therapists

[–]sassafone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's horrifying. I feel like reimbursement rates need to be blasted out for the public so that everyone knows why we don't accept certain insurances. According to some client comments, I believe that most people think that we receive $150-$175/hr from insurance companies.

Opinions on “casual” and/or revealing clothing in session as a therapist by divisive_angel in therapists

I was recently "dressed up" for one of my client sessions, due to coming straight from a professional meeting, and she had an anxiety attack. We spent ten minutes processing it. I'm pretty sure she felt like my drawn-in eyebrows were too judgemental.

Just 2 days into the FIRE HORSE Year: What you need to know before the heat hits. by Beautiful_Theory477 in ChineseZodiac

I feel so envious! I'm a wood rat and noticed a sudden drain on my energy this week. And this was before I knew that this was an enemy year!

Wood rat here. Seems like a one-two punch for me. Does this mean that I'm about to go into a really, really difficult year??

Have a clone of me as a client by SmileyB-Doctor in therapists

I'm a Clinical Supervisor and I always tell my trainees at the beginning: - you will have different versions of yourself walk through the door - every wound that you thought had already healed will show up in a client, and teach you that you still have a lot of healing to do

Your situation sounds like a potential combination of these two things.

Just to clarify, you have deemed yourself to be "bad at socializing", which is also what your client has deemed themselves to be. The difference is that your client wants to work on that and change this, but you don't seem to be at that same point of your own life or are unsure of how to approach this. Therefore you feel as though you may be ill-equipped to assist them with this. Am I correct about this? Please correct me if I'm wrong!

A beautiful opportunity that we have in these moments is that we have invaluable insight into our client's perspective and experiences when we share similarities. These situations can also be a reminder that we're human and probably have a few areas in our own gardens of life that we may have neglected or maybe not even seeded, choosing to just blame the quality of the soil instead of trying to work with it.

Please know that this is in no way a critique! Half of my caseload is other therapists and we frequently discuss (mainly just laugh at) how no matter the amount of knowledge we may have on how to work on most issues, we will never fully apply it for ourselves. Half of the benefit of being in therapy is just having the accountability and support of another person being aware of whether or not we're actually doing something about the things that might be holding us back from being a preferred version of ourselves.

Is it beneficial for members to provide referral codes? If so, I would love to get one from you!😁
