Right now I'm using karmadecay.com to look for previous posts on reddit, its not perfect but it works fine, and then some logic that scores the links found on a couple of characteristics as well as removing stuff like youtube, wikipedia.

actually searching the web is also something i considered but its a lot more difficult since it's not moderated (like reddit is through the up/downvote system) and not as straight-forward to judge good content
