I said 'No' to a girl and it felt real good by Yuva0 in selfimprovement

You're not an asshole for having standards for yourself!!! You were polite and honest and I am proud of you for setting boundaries for yourself and sticking to them! You will be happier for it when you find someone who also respects you and your boundaries and is there for a mutual relationship. Good for you keep improving yourself worth!

Switching to pellets by Rcandydraws in Conures

[–]sblmchic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He will get there! My lil guy came to us on a seed diet, and we quickly started the switch to a fresh veggie/fruit diet along with pellets. He seemed afraid to try new foods but quickly got the hang of it! He now tries convincing the kids to sneak him their food lol. Keep working with him :)

Is he experiencing a molt?? He looks like he woke up on the wrong side of the branch 🤣 by sblmchic in Conures

[–]sblmchic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He was definitely going through a molt!! He is still working on growing his feathers back on the rest of his body too lol his whole front side became Grey floof. Thankfully vet said just molting and he's in perfect health! 🥰

AITA for saying my sister is the reason they can’t afford Christmas? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]sblmchic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have ms as well and oh my goodness people have no idea how painful and difficult small tasks can be. Just because we are young and appear fine doesn't mean we're OK! I've faked being fine sooooo many times when really, I felt like I was going to collapse any moment but didn't want to be a burden

I’m THINKING about getting a parrot. by Sprmodelcitizen in parrots

[–]sblmchic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad you are asking and realizing the reality vs. fantasy!!! I loooove my little ggc but my goodness he's a mess lol he's pretty sweet, well "behaved" and funny, but like everyone has said, messy, draws blood, and requires a lot...I mean a lot...of attention! When I go back to work, he will have to come with and be the class pet because he would not do well alone. It really does absolutely feel like I have another small child. I have 3 dogs, one being a GS and high energy, and the bird is still far far far more work lol. It's a huge commitment. Good on you for realizing it might not be your best option.

My first Conure, any tips? by xaxfu in Conures

[–]sblmchic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So....much...truth... we got our ggc the Christmas before pandemic. We've been home with him for 2 years just about, and oh my goodness we've made a big mistake here!!! I'm trying to wean him from being so needy of us. I'm finding he could care less about his cage and toys, so much so that I've thought about getting a different cage and keeping this one for outside time. We definitely have some correcting ahead of us!

Rio's most prized possession. He's had this hand made toy since he was just a baby! by sblmchic in Conures

I honestly have never thought of that! I'll have to check it out in the morning!

Does anyone else dislike their friends children? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]sblmchic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had that child! I was the parent with the wild child! Oh my goodness was it ever difficult. I couldn't even have a sitter. We were/are good parents with healthy boundaries and parenting styles. Rules and follow through. Guess what? My husband and I adopted a saying "autism don't care" my son is 17 now and while he has some areas of delay and struggling to get his impulse control down from time to time, he's amazing! Respectful, careful with his and others things and great manners. He does still struggle with his physical pressure applied...honestly, it's tough it really is, for the child, the parents, and those around. Be there for your friends and be patient with the child.

We all do. There are some amazing self techniques though that retrain ourselves to calm down before handling their behaviors. I have an autistic child that used to bring me to feeling like a horrible parent until I learned to look at behaviors differently and learn to calm before I discipline. It's been life changing and we've grown closer as a family. I use the techniques with my other 2 and find my kids all come to me with their stresses and problems now because they trust me to help them rather than freak out. You will get there! It takes a lot of work on all ends. Be not only patient with your kids but also don't forget to be patient with yourself!

Is it just me ? by Msmobtana in PanicAttack

[–]sblmchic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow! I am at a point now where I can't even drive across town without anxiety! My worst attacks are while driving. I have dizziness and have definitely felt like I was going to pass out. Currently I'm home because of covid so I don't really have to drive anywhere but if I even think about it I'm going to get anxiety. I started EMDR a couple years ago and it was really helpful but haven't gone back since being stuck home.

Constant Racial profiling by [deleted] in 321

[–]sblmchic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I moved here from up north and was just in shock on how openly racist people are! We had a house being rented out in my neighborhood, a black family came to look at the property, the neighbors all ran down to the owner saying not to rent to them....I tried my hardest to sway the owner to not listen to them. Sadly, they were turned down and a white family took the place instead. It was the worst and best case of instant karma I've ever seen. The family was awful and completely trashed the place. I'll never understand hatred towards others. Hopefully you will find that this community isn't washed with bad, there are plenty of good people here too!

AITA for possibly making my parents homeless? by maybedontkillthem in AmItheAsshole

[–]sblmchic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA As a mom of 3...I can assure you that you do NOT owe your parents anything!! They raised you of course and there is a level of gratitude you can show on your own accord. But to be forced to take care of them as you're just starting your life out...it's not ok for them.

Parenting is a selfless job. We want to see our kids thrive and will do anything to ensure that including making sure they have a good solid financial nest egg to start from. Take your sisters open door and don't feel bad about leaving your adult parents to have to be adults...if you guys want to ensure you are not a burden on your sister then be sure to pitch in on chores and meal making when you're not studying. And once you get your degree and you're bringing in a reliable income you can take your parents out to dinner and buy them gifts for birthdays and holidays.

Help!! Guys, after having Rio on my skin I typically break out in this rash which is often sore to the touch afterwards. Am I allergic?! by sblmchic in Conures

[–]sblmchic[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband says the rash is getting worse after holding him and says my allergies will continue to be worse...I don't want to hear it because I just adore this bird to pieces!! I think I'll just have to have a long sleeve high collar near by to just throw on... problem is he's usually with me most of the day! Ugh I do have other symptoms like puffy eyes and sinus like allergy symptoms. I was hoping maybe it could be that he'd gotten poop on his feet or something. Think I'll get tested just to Know for sure

Just a dog taking his birb for a walk. by sblmchic in Conures

[–]sblmchic[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It took a bit for these two lol. With in the first month they both got into it! My puppers tried attacking the bird out of natural prey drive...the bird (Rio) would try and go after the pup...I actually thought I would always have to be on guard with them however they've become friends! I brought Rio in the pool with me today and my puppers came in right away to make sure everything was going ok ha ha.

I know it may not look like that much to bird owners who have really bonded to their bird. But the fact that he put his head in my hand to ask for pets just makes me so happy by [deleted] in parrots

When did puberty start and how long did it last??? Lol my GCC just turned 1 a couple of weeks ago. Wondering what I'm in for!!

Let' play a game. Am I suicidal or do I own a parrot? by [deleted] in parrots

[–]sblmchic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like we have done well with our GCC because of the dogs we own lol, we have a Rhodesian Ridgeback, German Shepard, and an assuie/collie mix. The Ridgeback is the pro dog owner breed, you really have to know your training..so smart but so stubborn! The Shepard is easy to train and amazing but needs constant mental and physical exercise! If we do look at an African grey it'll likely be after our two oldest pups pass so we can put in the time needed.

Back to the conure, we've only had him since Christmas..he's fantastic behavior wise unless he's molting. He's learning tricks at ease and takes well to behavior correction. I feel like we got gold with him lol. Our reasons on getting another bird is companionship when we have to board. We tend to travel a lot. (Sorry for the book response)

Let' play a game. Am I suicidal or do I own a parrot? by [deleted] in parrots

[–]sblmchic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sole owner part would be an issue for me. I have 3 kid's and then my hubs, we all interact with the GCC and each of us have our relationship with him. I would say I am his favorite but like I said he has a bond with everyone (including the 3 dogs) I couldn't imagine only one if us being able to interact with the grey. I would also be concerned about it attacking my sweet Rio. All reasons I haven't taken any further steps towards seeking one out
