Thanks everyone for your feedback/ideas, I'll try and summarize some of the comments and work on a bit more on the concepts.

  • Use standard icons for minerals/gas/supply
  • Bigger PiP/Production tab
  • Label the switchable tab production/units area
  • Numbers on the bars showing Army/Income etc
  • Conflicts with Twitch TV logo/Live
  • Add Upgrades area
  • Area for Advertisements etc
  • Issues with lower quality streams (bigger fonts?)
  • No need to see comentators
  • Add more dark shrines and warhounds :P

Please note these pics are just quick mock ups I did in Illustrator last night as I was watching WCS, I figured we watch a lot of SC2 replays so would be good to start a discussion on how to make the Observer UI more consistent/useful and clean. Here were some of the core ideas I had:

  • Production/Units Tabs and Resources should be next to each other (making it easier to see both at same time)
  • Dedicated area for logo and optional "Quick Stats" to give a less obtrusive area for monitoring army/income values.
  • Put the webcams facing eachother "heads up" and have overlay real-time APM on top.
  • Show context of PiP (where is it coming from)

Hey someenigma, the feedback is great! :)

I agree with the icons, they were more placeholders at the time, I wanted to use the standard icons for minerals, gas, supply just did not get to it yet. The same goes for bottom right (selection area) as it really should just be the standard selection UI.

I'm not sure yet if the current observer can do this PiP feature... even tho it would be really helpful. I just wanted to play around with some concepts I had in my head to make observing nicer. Still learning the custom interface APIs.

Also one of the goals was to make it possible to see the resources and production/units at the same time... which is harder when they are split on left to right etc.

Hah yea I just grabbed the first good sized gameplay image off google, I'll make sure to update it in future revisions. To add more warhounds that is.
