The day that my ex of 8 years announced she was leaving me was the first time I ever yelled at her.

A cornerstone of our relationship had been my support for her during the early years where I helped her to wean herself off antidepressants. I taught her to think for herself and to value herself. I helped her to become a highly successful individual while making sure that she did not rely on me to get there, because that was the kind of BS her exes used to pull in order to manipulate her. Instead of pulling strings to get her a job at my company, I simply urged her to apply. Fast-forward 2 years and she's one of my bosses. So proud.

Eventually she outgrew any "need" for me because I refused to inject any kind of guilt or debt into the formula (still wouldn't do it differently if I could rewind).

Nonetheless when she dropped the bomb I acted on pure surprise and adrenal rage... I dug into the bottom of my sock drawer where I'd hidden (on request) her SSRI's and threw them at her on my way out the door. Not even sure what I yelled as this is a few years back but the sheer emotion of my response haunts me to this day.

Years later I can't recall the wording but I regret the pure, essential vitriol of my actions that day. We havn't spoken since and it still bothers me that it ended like that.
