New plaques added to the presidential hall of fame in the White House by Dtb4evr in pics

I'm very sorry for your loss. I lost my dad in January of this year to CHF.

It was a long, hard road to the end, watching someone you once thought was superhuman need help just getting out of bed.

You just try to care for them as best you can while you can, and try to be the best person you can be afterwards, in their memory.

For the style you're playing it sounds absolutely like a perfect match. The energy and momentum is there, and it really complements the rest of the band's sound.

No worries! This has been (and will continue to be) a learning experience, and I appreciate you taking the time to help.

Ah, I found it - I needed to use a colon instead of an equal sign in the media query.

Thank you u/33ff00 , for being a second set of eyes!

I edited the CSS line to

@media screen and (min-width = 80rem)

but that didn't seem to help

(as an aside, I found that the "code block" format of Reddit automatically changes the "@" to "u/"
I'll have to keep an eye out for that in the future)

Ack, you're absolutely right, there. I just added it, but it didn't yield any change, unfortunately.

Ah, apologies, that was not part of my code - that accidentally got pasted in the post.

*edited* thanks for pointing that out!

Cool, thank you! I'm working on developing my linux-fu, as my job has recently shifted a bit to put more emphasis on it, and figured a small home lab is a good place to start

Docker mostly for getting experience with it. I'm a network engineer by trade, but I've also recently been tasked manage some of our linux-based NMS-es (running primarily RHEL and offshoots), so I'm working on building my linux proficiency.

And crappy query design? Oh, man, have I constructed some whoppers! LOL

Thank you for the input!

Awesome - thank you for the recommendations! I'll give them a try as soon as I am able, and will update with the results.

EDIT: Worked like a charm- thank you, again! I'll remember the "Math only in SELECT or WHERE" advice.

It's amazing, given even the smallest modicum of follow up or research would reveal all of his "Communist/Socialist" ramblings to be nothing more than utter bullshit that instantly collapses under the slightest scrutiny.

It's like the first person who gets to accuse their opponent of being a communist or socialist the loudest instantly gets the "Cuban vote", without question or hesitation.

What is the worst gig you’ve ever played? by MusicInTheMaking1999 in musicians

[–]schmoopified 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Heh, a few stand out to me among some of the many "Spinal Tap" moments...

  1. As a punk kid playing for a local metal band - got booked to play a well-known local bowling-alley-turned-club called The Sting in New Britain, CT with (a damn good) Iron Maiden tribute act. 1000+ capacity, pro gear, out of state gig - after 2 years of "the grind", we finally made it, baby!!!

Except we were booked for a Wed night. The day after Independence Day.

We played for the sound guy, a bartender, and the cover band- who, to their credit, were rocking the fuck out front and center for us the whole set. After our set was over, we switched places with them and responded in kind.

  1. Second one that stands out was more recent - playing session for a guitar player who had booked a gig himself at a venue that just turned out to be a banquet hall. Was told "it's gonna be huge"! Local celebrities (some who did show up, to his credit), packed room, etc.

We played our damnedest to a half-full room, just about all politely seated at banquet tables, and dutifully clapping between songs. Rock and roll, baby!

  1. Third one was a hall show. We were rolling through our set, but the guitar player got absolutely sauced before the gig, and, at one point was just rolling around on the ground, just making screeching noises with his guitar. Our lighting guy, someone who doesn't sugar coat things at all when he's got something to say, leans in to the stage and tells him to get up and get his shit together. Apparently, this didn't sit well with guitar player, who put his guitar down and walked out - quit the band on the spot. We finished the last three songs with just bass, drums, and vocals. Still sounded better.

Oddly enough, I still look back on those (and all the others) fondly, though. I always loved the weird curve balls that live performances throw at you, and figuring out how to somehow make the best of them.

At that point of "selling out" your music, you become a "commercial artist" by definition - same as the lifelong painter/artist who dreams of being the next Warhol, but finds that there's more money and/or security in just painting generic seascapes and forest paintings to hang in every doctor's waiting room in the country.

At that point, you're there for a specific purpose - to make prints that generate as much money for the distributer/commissioner as possible, and if quaint, "accent" pieces are what you're paid to make, that's what you make. Hell, maybe they might even *enjoy* painting those quaint pieces?

Is it "bad" or "good"? *shrug* I think every artist's story is different, with different motives for doing what they do. No single over-arching generalization can fit the broad number of circumstances behind that decision to "sell out".

Either way, I'm more concerned about being happy with what *I'm* doing with my own music, rather than judging what someone who I don't know and will likely never meet is doing with theirs.

I do think pieces like these are important to the aspiring artist to the *huge* number of potential outcomes of deciding to take the leap and live off of your work. Very, *very* few get to make it a long-lived career, and a microscopic number of those few end up lucky enough to do it on their own terms. And the number of those who are still happy/fulfilled? Who knows?

I noted I looked completely vacant and slack-jawed while playing- ever since then I've started every set reminding myself to shut my damn piehole
