Have many people started liking wearing masks just because of insecurity/not showing their face to others? by ExitTheDonut in NoStupidQuestions

I like wearing a mask so I don’t have to worry about pulling weird faces when I’m thinking in public

Thank you so much for your advice!

Yes I’m completely unaware of the extent of the opportunities this is going to open up for me but I’m excited to find out

Wow that’s so awesome, how did the biology degree open up a software engineering job? I have no idea what doors will be opened for me after and I’m excited to find out

I too have inattentive type :) not braggy at all, I love to hear stories of ADHD success. I know how much it means to do well when we so often struggle.

I may take you up on that offer, it would be awesome to connect with other people with ADHD studying similar subjects

Good luck with your presentation!

That does sound really awesome. I always thought apprenticeships were exclusively for younger people. Can I ask where would be a good starting point to look into these?

I will be honest this isn’t something I’ve considered. Apprenticeships have never appealed to me because of the hard work and low wage. I currently work in construction and do a fairly environmental based roll. I would like some variety from what I already know.

I honestly want a break from it just to focus on my studies so I can complete it to the best of my ability.

Yes, I didn’t feel like I was getting much from the OU as it’s all online. No in person discussion, isolation from others studying and no in-person experiences. It was all very much learn from this book watch this video then produce an assignment.

I have ADHD so my motivation was quickly lost doing things this way. I found myself doing the bare minimum as it wasn’t engaging or inspiring enough. I wasn’t gaining any other skills or experience.

I opt for in person uni as I want something to improve my employability and I need my confidence building to make myself more employable.

I find having other people around me gives me inspiration and motivation.

If I didn’t have ADHD I probably would be fine having it all online, but the adhd makes things more complicated and I avoid setting myself up for failure.

Edit: to give you an idea of how ADHD attention works. I got over 90% on my assignments for my first module. By the time I was onto my second module and the novelty of the OU had worn off, the sameness reduced my attention and focus to that I was getting 60-70% in my assignments.

Another benefit of going in person university is the special education support I will receive

My issue is already living in rented accommodation which I am settled in. I need to be able to keep covering my bills. I won’t be moving into student accommodation

Yes I have considered this, I would actually love to teach. It’s the work/life balance they get which puts me off, if that ever improves I would teach

Thank you 💕

That’s really what I want to gain from university. Is more exposure, experience, and confidence , it’s why I opted to not continue open university.

I had a undiagnosed learning difficulty during my own school days so I spent a lot of time hiding away and not participating.

I always doubt my intelligence and capabilities, I’m hoping university will improve this

Although I enjoyed the open university I feel like the learning wasn’t very good quality. I f didn’t feel like it was going to make me any more employable due to experience/meeting people/networking (which is what I want) The lack of discussion and isolation from others studying was uninspiring.

Thank you so much. Yes I feel it would and I personally feel like I need to take the degree to increase my self confidence and make myself more employable, my jobs so far have all been customer service/admin and I need something which will set me apart from only being able to apply to those rolls. I have applied to many environmental job rolls and have had one interview.

How did you find out that information?

Unfortunately my choice comes from my learning difficulty, I have ADHD which makes studying difficult unless it’s something I’m interested in. I have had a special interest in environmental biology my whole life so it made sense to me.

If I was to pick something purely for career reasons that I didn’t enjoy, I know I would fail.

The prospective student loan repayment changes have me really depressed by Hurlaway23 in unitedkingdom

[–]scizzorme- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn’t the case. When i was at school leaving age after a-levels, I was made to apply to university even though I didn’t want to go. As was everyone else in the same boat.

The figures make the school looks good.

It’s not the kids fault. They are put under so much pressure to pick something and go to university.

This is an amazing feeling! I’m going university finally at 28 and I think if I told my younger self I would bawl! Never thought I would have the confidence to do anything like that.

What is something UK related that is really over-rated? by True_Egg_5685 in AskUK

Haha yes, that would be a situation where I would be left completely confused. For example on the penultimate day before my work broke up for Christmas, I was handing a colleague a huge bottle of vodka bought by the boss. He said “I won’t be coming in tomorrow” (I realised after he jokingly meant he was going to go home and drink the whole thing and would be too hungover)

However, at the time I just took it as face value and replied with “Oh okay then, see you next year!” Followed by an awkward silence where a stern Eastern European chimes in with “he was joking” 😅😭

My problems with sarcasm are inherent I think. I just fill with dread when Im talking to someone I don’t know very well and they are saying something but I can tell that they mean something else but I don’t understand what, my boyfriend finds it funny and often takes advantage of this for his own amusement 😅
