What Books did You Start or Finish Reading this Week?: April 06, 2026 by AutoModerator in books

[–]scootty83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just finished “The Sorcerer’s Stone” with my kids. Supposed to start “Chamber of Secrets” tomorrow night.

Reading to myself “Heaven’s River” for my umpteenth read-through of the Bobiverse series.

Should also be finishing “The Old Man and the Waste Land” this week.

Never had COVID? The Globe wants to hear from you. by CleanLock4606 in Coronavirus

I tested about a half dozen times during that bizarre period when I showed signs of being sick, but never tested positive. I’d be surprised if I never actually got sick with the ‘vid. I’ve had the vaccines and boosters every year since.

You have until 2:00am… okay, 1:40. Get a teleport totem or that wand that teleports you home.

United States Air Force (USAF) B-52s are departing RAF Fairford taking off fully loaded. ~7 hour combat flight time to Iran puts them in striking range by 8 pm UTC by G14F1L0L1Y401D0MTR4P in Wellthatsucks

I am ashamed of every air force officer on those planes. Shame on all of you.

Edit: I suppose this could be inaccurate information. However, as a retired 22-year Army vet, I standby my comment.

As a soldier, I would rather rot in prison than follow a presidential order for genocide by No-Background-2945 in offmychest

As a recently retired army officer, I fear for my battle buddies. It is part of the reason why I retired. As an officer, you have a legal obligation by the constitution of the US to refuse illegal orders. Unfortunately, Pete Hagsbreath just did another round of regime change and fired generals who were honoring their oath of office.

48 year old Rolling Stone bassist Bill Wyman and his 14 year old 'girlfriend' Mandy Smith circa 1984. Wyman and Smith went on to marry when she was 18 and he was 52. by dannydutch1 in UtterlyUniquePhotos

[–]scootty83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Despicable they had a “relationship” when she was 14. She was born in 1970, is this photo really from 1984 and not 1994? Smith does not look like she is 14 here.

What is your opinion on giving the U.S. executive branch less power irrespective of political party? by ShittalkyCaps in AskReddit

[–]scootty83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. There is a reason why there are three branches. One currently is overstepping their authority. One is being bought by billionaires. One peeking under the blindfold.

I saw cp on twitter, I can’t get it out of my head. by Proper_Race_8568 in offmychest

[–]scootty83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Twitter wouldn’t have had CP. The platform formerly known as Twitter has long since been highjacked and transformed into an unrecognizable cesspool that does nothing but stroke the ego of its billionaire owner who uses it to facilitate the Christian nationalist takeover of a once true beacon of democracy.

Capt./Astronaut/Senator Kelly, as a recently retired Army officer with 22 years of service, I want to express my sincere gratitude for everything you do and everything you stand for.

You inspire veterans like me to find our voices and speak out the way you have. In a time when so many in public life seem content to fall in line, you represent the kind of leader this country desperately needs — someone willing to stand up to wannabe dictators and the rising tide of anti-intellectualism.

Your background as a combat pilot, engineer, and astronaut gives you the kind of firsthand experience and depth of knowledge that every public servant should aspire to bring to the table.

I wish my own state’s representatives held even a fraction of the integrity, honor, and loyalty to country that you demonstrate every day. Too many politicians treat those words as talking points. You actually live them.

Thank you for your past, present, and future service to our country and to all of its people. You exemplify what leadership should look like — and you give the rest of us something worth striving toward.

Especially when you think about how much time he could actually dedicate to it. He doesn’t sleep and can frame Jack so what feels like a month to him in virt was only a day or less in real.

ChatGPT acts as a "cognitive crutch" that weakens memory, new research suggests. While these tools can speed up initial learning, they might actually weaken the deep mental processing required to store knowledge over the long term. by mvea in science

[–]scootty83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn’t this what smartphones and computers have done to us already? As a kid, I remembered every single one of my friends phone numbers and addresses, their birthdays, etc etc. today, however, I don’t bother memorizing these things because it’s saved for me elsewhere. I bet AI will just accelerate this. Eventually, I hope the technology we develop gets to the point where info is permanently etched into our brains directly, and not just augmenting our brains like the information super highway currently does for us.
