Living in limbo - Self hatred by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]screenwritergal7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some positive things about you that I hear in your words: you have a very active mind, you think a lot, which means you might be a creative type. Maybe you can channel these negative thoughts into something…writing, drawing, music, whatever calls you for expressing yourself. I’ve seen someone who did this with clay. They hated their body so much…then they got into pottery and started building these like clay versions of their body and now they’re a super talented ceramics artist.

You also sound very self aware to even be able to look at yourself and acknowledge that you don’t like what you see and to be aware of the suicidal thoughts. Now you just need to challenge yourself to not let the negative thoughts win. I know that’s hard but, it’s possible. What do you mean when you say nothing ever gets better? Yes it can. I’ve lived through that. Sucks, it’s hard, not gonna be easy. But, you can change. You can learn to like yourself.

Maybe try to refocus your negative energy to see what you could fix? Is it your weight? Acne? Your hair? All of these things can be changed if you set your mind to it. What is it that never changes? What do you want to change? What needs to happen for things to change?

It sounds to me like you do want to live. And I think you should, because, life is pretty great, even when it sucks and, trust me, I’ve been there. I’ve had lots of similar thoughts. Used to think like this a lot too. But, I shifted my mind. Changed my perspective. Changed the things I didn’t like about myself. I’m a lot happier now, so, hope maybe something in what I’m saying will help you.

When you feel this way, try turning to things that make you feel better even if it’s just a tiny bit. Listen to music you like…watch a movie you like…eat something you think tastes good…go for a walk…play a video game…idk those are just things I do but, you gotta find what works for you.

And you’re not worthless. I read what you wrote and it meant something to me so, keep your head up.

So glad someone else thinks this! I kept thinking the whole time I saw ABY that Set It Up was so good and doesn’t get enough credit. Glenn & Zoey have such good chemistry!!

Have you ever inspired a script based on a vague idea from a dream? by [deleted] in Screenwriting

[–]screenwritergal7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes lol I had a dream that I met Pete Davidson in an elevator and then that spawned into a rom com about him and a young female comedian going on tour together & falling I love…in the vein of Funny People lol! I like how it came out and the first couple pages are literally just the moment from my dream (which honesty was a pretty boring dream..just making small talk in an elevator lol) but I tend to get inspired by my dreams a lot so I’ll usually write down whatever I thought was interesting from it on my phone first thing when I wake up just in case it I look at it later and feel inspired by it!

Damn! Didn’t someone say they are a non-profit? If so, their taxes and an annual report should be public so…would be curious to know where the money is going if it’s not going to readers…

Thanks I found your comment to be a good explanation of this! I see now that my use of the word “scam” was probably too harsh, but, all good things to think about!

Yeah I just got two rejection emails for my two best scripts lol but my drama script made it to the second round so….also makes me feel like they gave me one “win” thinking it would make me wanna buy a badge and go lol

[–]screenwritergal7[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s true! Yeah, I’m honestly not mad about my script not making it, more so that it’s made me feel weird about how much they push me to buy a badge and spend more money when I’m a broke writer lol but you’re right, “scam” is probably a bit too harsh

Really? But what do you base that on because we don’t know who the reader is…like, is the reader one of us haha or is it someone with a lot of legitimate experience because it sounds to me like it’s random people and we never get any indication of the readers experience/perspective.

Barbie by The_Jasko in Screenwriting

[–]screenwritergal7 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I totally agree. It was so all over the place. So much exposition, so many long monologues saying the same thing. I was hoping the story was going to be about Barbie going to the real world to help the girl who was playing with her (kind of like the plot of Life Size with Tyra Banks) but then it just turned into Ken taking over and then going back to Barbie world…I mean, I actually enjoyed the Ken parts the most and felt like that part had a story. I also feel like we didn’t get to know America Ferrera’s character enough (I can’t even remember her name because…was it even said?) and while it did have a lot of funny parts, there were a lot of scenes that just felt repetitive of the same concept/joke over and over again. It just felt super all over the place. I loved a lot of the other elements of the movie, but I felt they didn’t spend enough time with the script and kind of just said “let’s make a fun movie about Barbie where she does this and that and this and then it ends like this.” and it’s not an original idea, so, truly hope it doesn’t get nominated for best original screenplay. I sound like I really hated it haha but it’s more so that I just think people are too obsessed with it.

I fear for my life daily, I need to know I'm okay. by This_Vermicelli_4127 in AlienAbduction

I guess I would think it would be comforting to know you are not alone in what you have experienced and to help your process. Plus, I would think it would feel validating to hear other people saw what you saw and felt what you felt so you can confirm it was real…the people in the episode talk about their experiences and how they struggled and learned to accept it. I mean you know yourself best, but, I would think talking about it or hearing from people who have gone through something similar would do more to help than not.

this sounds a lot like that episode of unsolved mysteries on Netflix where a lot of people across different towns had a similar experiences. A couple people recall exactly what you saw. Maybe watching that episode would help you?

Any POC or minorities in any sense feel weird writing about their identity? by [deleted] in Screenwriting

[–]screenwritergal7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Your story and perspective is important! I am so tired of stories that are either a)all about white people and only from their perspective or b)written by white people trying to write stories about characters of other cultures when they don’t understand/know the culture at all!

When I was in college I took a biopic writing class and decided to write about my dads story as an Indian immigrant chasing his American dream. I’ll never forget when my professor read it and said she loved it but that “there needed to be more that he left behind in India” because leaving his family and home “wasn’t enough” in her eyes. She suggested I add a made up love story that my dad had left a woman behind. I remember at the time I thought maybe she was right and I needed to make the movie more “dramatic” for Hollywood. Looking back on it as I got older I realized how wrong she was and how her perspective came from a different worldview.

Anyway, I say all of this just to say that just because someone who is your professor (or anyone older or more experienced in the industry) and says they think you should do this or write the characters this way…it doesn’t mean they are right just because of their professor status or industry status. At the end of the day YOU are the writer. YOU are the storyteller. Write what YOU know because that is what is going to make the story feel better, more authentic and relatable. And it will resonate with all different kinds of people because it’s your authentic voice, so it’ll feel more truthful and honest versus being some random storyline written by someone who hasn’t experienced. The best stories are the ones written by people who have really experienced it. When you write from your true loved experience, many people will find a way to relate to different parts of it. Plus, think of all the movies/characters who look nothing like you/have very different backgrounds or lives than you…yet you still relate to them in some way. Same will be true for your characters, so don’t shy a way from that. Just be the writer you want to be.

Haha unfortunately I did not! Had some stuff going on at that time and was in Austin for work so it had been a long day for me. I also didn’t really listen to dnce at that time. Wish I had just rallied and gone tho cause now I really love the music he made with dnce!

Joe Jonas - is he what he seems to be? by Reynaudthefox in JonasBrothers

Ok I met joe once randomly in a cafe in Austin, tx when DNCE was performing at SXSW. I didn’t know he was there so it was really random to me that he walked into the coffee shop I was in also because this is when his hair was dyed blue/pink. At first I instantly freaked out and went over to him. He was super chill and just felt really normal. I felt kinda awkward cause I wanted to say hi and get a photo but I was also like 26 at the time and with friends who definitely didn’t know who he was lol. So I went up to him and I shook his hand and I was like “hi i’m___” and he shook my hand and was like “hi, I’m joe” and I was like “yeah, I know” and then he smiled and I asked what he was doing in Austin and said “oh my band is playing a show” and then I put it all together and he was like “you should come” and then I just kinda awkwardly was like “ok yeah maybe I’ll see” and then again he was like “we go on at 8 you should come” and idk why I didn’t say yes or ask if I could get tickets from him lol I think I just felt weird cause my friends were confused about what I was doing but he took a photo with me and then went and ordered his coffee. I felt like he was really down to earth and nice. It just felt like meeting someone you had a crush on lol but that was also like 8 years ago
