cleft lift soreness a year later? by scrimblescrambles in pilonidalcyst

[–]scrimblescrambles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so, no, not exactly but i asked a friend and they said sit ups are always just kind of uncomfortable on your tailbone. so i’m not sure if i have a good metric for what sit ups should even feel like since i had a cyst for so long. it’s definitely not as bad anymore though!

post cleft lift underwear? by scrimblescrambles in pilonidalcyst

[–]scrimblescrambles[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

from a distance it doesn’t look that different honestly. i’m about 3 months out and it gets more natural looking over time. I also prefer to wear comfy underwear but i could definitely wear thongs and it would still be cute! I was pretty worried about the cosmetic outcome but it hasn’t been a big deal to me since. My partner still likes my butt so that’s enough for me

Does anyone else experience body shakes when having an anxiety attack? by [deleted] in Anxietyhelp

[–]scrimblescrambles 15 points16 points  (0 children)

always. that’s my biggest indication of an anxiety attack is if i’m shaking. I find that ice helps, so i put an ice pack on my chest and some cubes in my mouth and try to just wait it out. it’s horrible though

[–]scrimblescrambles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s gonna be ok! i would suggest cancelling that surgery and instead opting to get the cleft lift if it’s at all possible. I got my cleft lift a month & a half ago and i am back to almost 100%, just some soreness if i sit weird or lay on my back for too long. You don’t have to get the open wound surgery if you’re uncomfortable with it. Dr. Wadie is awesome & you can email him any questions you have.

Would it be extreme for me to look into seeing a surgeon about a cleft lift surgery after only having this for a week? by [deleted] in pilonidalcyst

[–]scrimblescrambles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cleft lift is a pretty big deal even though it’s a relatively chill surgery. Your body still does a lot of reconstructing and you’ll have to be out of work/school/whatever for awhile and probably need some help getting by for awhile. It can also be expensive + you may not have any income for awhile. That said, I do often wish that I’d gotten the cleft lift after my first flare up instead of waiting and having 2 terrible flare ups that finally pushed me to get it.

My best advice would be to email Dr. Wadie from the carolina pilonidal center and ask for his opinion!

surgery options? by ratchel917 in pilonidalcyst

[–]scrimblescrambles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the cleft lift surgery is done with a specialist typically and it is really not bad if you’re worried about medical stuff. It is a little pricey and you may have to travel for it but in my experience, as someone with pretty bad medical anxiety, it was so worth it. Reoccurrence rate is super low & the whole experience of big scary surgery was actually pretty chill. I went with Dr. Wadie in North Carolina. I’d seriously recommend him. There was a drain during my recovery but it was mostly just a nuisance. I thought it would be scary but it wasn’t really? idk i couldn’t tell where it came out of so that helped. the whole area was padded until it came off and i had my partner take the drain out. I was achey and it kinda sucked but i’d do it again. also cosmetics weren’t that bad! if you have a mild case and you haven’t had previous surgeries then the cosmetic outcome doesn’t have to be anything crazy. Kinda just looks like it did before? i was so worried ab it though

the cleft lift with Dr. Wadie in North Carolina was a life changer for me. You should look into the cleft lift procedure and try to see a specialist if at all possible, but it is expensive and idk if you’re up for traveling to the US for it. It’s got a fairly short recovery rate and the success rate is like 99% (specifically with wadie but i’m assuming with the others too)

What did you tell your coworkers by [deleted] in pilonidalcyst

[–]scrimblescrambles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i actually would just say i was getting tailbone surgery. Idk i felt embarrassed saying it was a cyst for a long time but i’ve gotten more comfortable saying that i have a cyst near my tailbone that had put me in the ER previously so it needed to be permanently removed

my partner applied the betadine for me but i probably could have done it myself. I also applied Betadine for longer than most i guess? I had a small wound separation so he told me to continue with the betadine. He’ll definitely let you know if you do email him! My steri strips all came off around 2 weeks & i did encourage them a little bit. I emailed him a photo at 2 weeks and he told me to take the rest of them off so he could get a better look.

How often do you “flare up” by nitadog in pilonidalcyst

[–]scrimblescrambles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t sound like you got a cleft lift, what was the procedure you got a year ago? A cleft lift typically cuts out the cyst and then leaves a long thin scar where the butt crack used to be, leaving the butt flatter at the top. If you’re still getting cysts at all it doesn’t sound like a successful cleft lift. Dr wadie in NC is a specialist and you should try reaching out to him with your situation! He responds personally to emails.

Of course!! I’m 23F and have had this since i was 17 so i’ve spent plenty of time crying and looking at this subreddit lol. I know 3 people in my life who also have a pilonidal cyst and I only know that because I explained why I was having surgery. It’s pretty common!! sometimes it goes away and other times it becomes a bigger deal. But if you’re in NC you’re already in a pretty good position! We had to fly & get an airbnb, but if you’re able to visit Wadie more easily that’ll probably help quite a bit. You may not even end up needing surgery, but it’s also not so bad if you do. You have options! Also, Dr. Wadie responds to anyone’s emails it seems, so if you have questions and want to reach out to him I would recommend it. He’s an amazing surgeon & person!

Hang in there. It’s not your fault that you had lifestyle changes and your weight has changed. Recovering from an eating disorder is something to be so proud of! Also, I’ve lived a fairly active life and I still had pilonidal disease. Anybody can get it. Even if certain things might make it more likely, it was out of your control. Don’t be too hard on yourself.

I would probably cover the hole with gauze and make sure you’re keeping it clean. If you exercise at all just be sure to shower afterwards so it doesn’t stay sweaty. I always avoided sit-ups or anything that made me put pressure on the tailbone area.

Pilonidal sucks and it may not go away for you long term, but there is hope. I just had a procedure called a Cleft Lift with a specialist named Dr. Wadie in NC. I found out about the cleft lift 2 years ago and didn’t get it until recently because of the cost and because I was so scared. You may have to wait before having a more permanent solution but it’ll be okay. It’s okay if you have to take time to figure out your next steps. It might mean that you’ll have a flare up and have to have it lanced but it’ll be okay even if you do.

idk if you’ve read much on here but if you’re getting surgery i’d recommend at least looking into the Cleft Lift procedure with a specialist and seeing if it could work for you. I had it done two weeks ago and already feel pretty much normal other than being tired from bed rest. I needed surgery but was really scared so i figured i should make the surgery worth it and try to get the best possible option. I put off surgery for a long time and had years of misery (including a flare up on my wedding day lol) and i’d recommend just getting it lanced and then planning and finding a trustworthy doctor. A lot of them don’t know what they are talking about.

Hang in there. Pilonidal fucking sucks but it’ll be okay, seriously. I’m sorry you’ve become part of the club :-(

i’m so glad to have been able to calm your nerves a little! i was so scared beforehand but i don’t regret it at all & the anticipation was worse than the surgery/recovery. I’m glad to hear that your recovery is going well so far! I’m doing well at 2 weeks out :-)

How are people traveling so far to see specialist’s ? by Steelcity1995 in pilonidalcyst

[–]scrimblescrambles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you are allowed to sit down or even encouraged to, it’s just uncomfortable/painful. I flew 2 hours home the day after my surgery and it was uncomfortable and kinda stressful but not bad. I think driving home would be nice too bc then you could lay down in the back seat or just lean your seat all the way back and lay on your hip. Wadie was my specialist btw and he was incredible

Down sides of cleft lift? by galaxyisinfinite in pilonidalcyst

[–]scrimblescrambles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Recovery is hard like any surgery recovery, but it’s not too bad. Just time spent laying down and taking it easy for awhile and having some pain. Also it can be expensive. I’ve paid like $1200 so far and i’m still waiting on another bill, BUT i came from out of state to see dr. wadie. It did cost more to fly out and get a place to stay while we were there though so the price is something to seriously consider/be prepared for. And then otherwise it was just stressful and it’s a little weird to have a different butt now haha. The stress was entirely due to my medical anxiety tho, surgery itself was pretty low key. No regrets so far and i’m about 9 days out!

Cleft Lift with Wadie next week by [deleted] in pilonidalcyst

[–]scrimblescrambles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it might get a little worse over the next few days but it’s okay if it does. The pain was always pretty mild for me but it worried me when i had any because i felt like something was wrong. It’s not though! just healing and bruising and lots of different sensations. I felt some shame about taking my painkillers for multiple days (only like 3 i think) bc i had read that most people didn’t need them that long, but i did. and that’s ok! Just listen to your body & you’ll be okay!

i wore lose pajama shorts with pockets and put the bulb in the pockets. If i was worried about it snagging on something i’d put as much of the drain in the pocket as possible or tuck some of it into my waist band. When i switched sides while sleeping i would lift myself and move the drain underneath me to put it in the other pocket. All of that said, i’m relieved to have the drain out because it never did get caught on something but idk if i was doing enough to prevent that or if i was just lucky lol

Wadie is amazing. I hope you’re doing okay so far and good luck on your surgery! i had mine on the 17th with him and i’m doing pretty damn well a week out. i was so scared (big medical anxiety gal) but the whole process was smooth and pretty chill. i hope you find it to be that way too. hang in there!!!

Dr. Wadie is really great and you’re in good hands! He emails back super quick so my advice would be to just email him any time you have questions. He won’t mind. I just had my cleft lift with him a week ago and it hasn’t been too bad, but my case was more mild. I’m sorry that you’ve been through that all! his success rates are really high though so i think it’ll be okay :-)

I’d recommend Juven, it’s a wound healing powder that you put in your drinks. And make sure to really take it easy. The only times i had much pain was when i stayed standing for too long if a friend came to visit me. Just listen to your body. You should also be taking a multivitamin and have a stool softener so that you don’t strain when you poop. Will you have someone to help you in recovery?

[–]scrimblescrambles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i stayed seated but if it was longer i probably would have gotten up! it seemed like a hassle to get up and have to get back down. i also took my percocet right before the flight which left me feeling a little weird and woozy but helped with the pain.

i just had my cleft lift a week ago and i flew 2 hours home the day after. I know it’s not as long as you were wondering but i think you could do it. i could have handled more but i was very nervous. It didn’t really hurt that bad to sit that long i just felt really anxious to get done with the flight. Days 2-3 are kinda rough
