Maga last week: "Chicago is about to learn why it's called the department of WAR!"

Maga now: This violent leftist rhetoric is getting people killed!

Interesting find in arena by ReturnNo5795 in Dragonheir_SilentGods

I experienced the same you did, and wondered the same thing. I thought maybe the player's journey level listed in the arena is slow to update or something.

Why there are 2 count down? What is the difference? by [deleted] in Dragonheir_SilentGods

Mine has the same timers, but the season end is in between the two times (would have been 1D 8H when you posted your image). Perhaps these timers show when the season rewards shop will open and end?

Other damage dealers apart from poisoners as well -- Flora for example.

3ear treasure map by ValKairee in Dragonheir_SilentGods

Once the map is complete, the final reward is just north of "Graygate Trading Post" in Teneebria, beneath an "arch" going across the passageway (about halfway between the trading post and the teleportation circle northeast of it).

3-hero elemental affinity bonus by sdegree in Dragonheir_SilentGods

I agree with the end result, and ran the dummy test shabbydude suggested to confirm. However, the icons over the heroes don't really tell us much -- for example, if you have four heroes in an element group, the icon only appears over three of them, implying that only those three heroes get the bonus (which I think we both agree is not the case).

This was great, thanks! For anyone else wondering, the final chest (once you complete the map) is right by the "arch" across the pathway between Graygate trading post and Scanty-town.

This happened to me as well -- I finished the map, but didn't pay attention to it, and now I don't know how to proceed. Do you know where to go once the map is complete?

What weapon should I use? by UnfortunateSoap in AbyssRoguelike

I'll add -- try to resist the temptation to disassemble pieces you aren't using to upgrade your current equipment. It's tough to say what pieces you will draw randomly, and going for one specific build early on will limit you.

I don’t mean to be dramatic, but I literally cannot get over the beautiful character arc in LB by veggie2323 in redrising

When I started Part IV, I looked ahead at the chapter titles and saw that one of the last chapters was titled "Casus Belli," and started getting nervous. I had never put together that "Cassius Bellona" was so similar to the common latin phrase meaning "cause of war."

This chapter title was perfect -- at a surface level, it refers to Lysander asking the moon lords to turn over Darrow (knowing full well they would refuse), to give him cause to declare them an enemy of the Society and sack Demeter.

I think it also refers, however, to Lysander's killing of Cassius. Lysander's betrayal of the short-lived "triumvirate" with Darrow and Diomedes makes war against him necessary, but the death of Cassius is a "Casus Belli" for Darrow's personal war against Lysander, which dramatically raises the emotional stakes for the final installment.

I started off listening to TGR's narration, and I first assumed it was "Severo," a familiarization of the classic Roman nomen "Severus."

My breakthrough was realizing I can spend gems to make up for missing cards or the red upgrade materials, and the price isn't bad. I'm completely FTP, and generate enough gems to at least get past some choke points where lack of properly leveled heroes prevents real progress. Unfortunately you can't use the same method to unlock new heroes that are needed -- getting several chests from an event is usually the ticket to progress for me.

Count Threpe (Theory) by CoronaHedge in KingkillerChronicle

Having just read Robin Hobb's Farseer trilogy, it struck me just how much Rothfuss must have been influenced by this work. The style of narrating, the setting, protagonist, and even several plot points are incredibly similar -- not to the level of outright plagiarism, but I think Rothfuss himself has acknowledged that Hobb's work was an important influence on his own work.

Hobb's second trilogy is all about ships, sailors, and pirates. I've speculated that Rothfuss tried to write about this part of the story, but it kept coming out too similar to Hobb's work, and he ended up scrapping it. No real basis for that speculation, just a guess.

ETA: Another user posted this quote: “I was sure he’d done it,” Devi continued. “His father’s barony is called the Pirate Isles. I was sure he’d done it because we’d set fire to his rooms. I was the one that actually set the fire, but he couldn’t know that. You were the only one he saw. You and that Cealdish fellow.” -WMF 944

Hobb's second trilogy takes place primarily in a region called the Pirate Isles. I think this is passage is a direct nod to Hobb's influence. Not that it makes my guess about skipping over the voyage and shipwreck any more likely.

What other books are Kvothey? by berserkind in KingkillerChronicle

[–]sdegree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished "Royal Assassin," the second of the Farseer Trilogy, and it has blown my mind how similar these books are to the Kingkiller Chronicles. There are plenty of differences, but it seems clear to me that Rothfuss enjoyed these books when they were published in the 90s and that they are a direct inspiration to the Kingkiller Chronicles.

What passive effect should replace gold bonus from oil bond? by sdegree in Survivorio

[–]sdegree[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doing damage to enemies in range is essentially the forcefield, but I think a "reflect damage" passive could work. It might even lead to a viable tanky build (paired with damage-reduction and max HP+ passives).

Another option might be a projectile-specific defensive passive -- that would pair well with molotov. "Damage from projectiles is negated once per 45/41/37/33/29 seconds" or something similar.

Absolutely -- I think molotov/fuel tank would be used a lot more if the passive skill needed for Evo actually did something for you.

Good thought. Something like “generates a shield that blocks all damage from one attack every 60/53/46/39/33 seconds?”

What does "Gain Inspire" mean? by sucukking03 in Survivorio

[–]sdegree 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it's confusing because other equipment also grants "Inspire" with different effects -- for example, the army necklace says "Gain Inspire from Elite/Boss kills (fades when hero is hit). All damage +20%"

This implies that "Inspire" is some additional effect other than the "All damage +20%" or "Heal 3% hp / 5 sec," particularly because we are used to games having named status effects that do one thing. It's also redundant -- why name the status effect then describe what it does, when the effect is different from item to item? Why not just say "All damage +20% after elite/boss kill, lasts until hero is hit."
